Dear all,
I'm testing RemoteDesktopManager to adminster an heterogeneous network with both PCs and Macs.
With Mac OS X Mountain Lion (and Lion too) if I set "open session" from RDM it doesn't show me the current logged screen
but give me a new login screen. It's not what we need for support purpose.
This is a "new Mac functionality" and I suppose the VNC viewer have to handle Mac specific authentication options in order to allow a remote control of the current Mac session.
Is there any way to do this with RemoteDesktopManager ?
Any help will be greatly appreciated
Thanks !
Nicolas Michel
Hi,
Which VNC client have you tried?
David Hervieux
Dear dhervieux,
I've tried RealVNC, uVNC and ThighVNC.
It's all the same, we have a classic VNC authentication or maybe a MS authentication which is not usable on Mac.
Thanks !
Have you seen anything in their forum about that?

Hi,
I've found this
http://support.dameware.com/kb/article.aspx?ID=400129
The workaround is to use another VNC server and not the one installed by default

Thanks dhervieux
Adding an additional vnc server on all Mac clients is not the best option, for multiple reason :
- It may eventually be in conflict with the original one
- It's an additional opened service, so it's an additional potential security issue as we'll keep ARD sharing
- Security update should'nt be so regulary done for external apps, specifically for products that don't target the Mac as main product.
- VNC auth is not the more secure authentication way
So definitively, should be better to find a plug-in for Apple auth.
Anyway, thanks !
Hi,
If you find anything that work, let me know and I will do my best to add it.

Thanks David !
Of course, if I have any solution I'll tel it here
