Bluetooth mouse and keyboard cannot control RDP session on HDMI extended screen

avatar

Device: Xiaomi 17 Pro Max System: HyperOS 3.0.304 (Android 16)
Description: I am using a Type-C hub to connect an external monitor via HDMI, and I have connected my mouse and keyboard via Bluetooth.
When I launch an RDP connection and select the HDMI extended screen mode, I can see my remote desktop fully displayed on the external monitor. However, the Bluetooth mouse and keyboard can only move and input on the phone's local screen; they are unable to control or input anything within the RDP remote desktop session on the external display.
I believe this is a critical bug that affects the usability of desktop mode. I hope you can look into this issue. Thank you.

Hello,

We have analyzed your issue. At the moment, the implementation is a bit janky and could benefit from some rework. On Pixel devices running Android 16 with Desktop mode and on Samsung devices using Samsung DeX, it works better since the external monitor is treated as a fully independent desktop, which automatically routes input events to that monitor when using external peripherals.

However, it is possible to achieve what you want by following these steps:

  1. Open the RDP session and select the built-in screen (not your external monitor).
  2. Tap on the toolbar menu (the three vertical dots) and select Session Settings.
  3. Go to Interactive Method and enable Use Pointer Capture.
  4. Exit the session, then reopen it while selecting your external display. Mouse and keyboard input should now work. However, to exit the session, you will need to tap on the screen and close it from there.
