Ability to disable file sharing in Devolutions Send (password-only usage)

Hello,
We are currently evaluating/deploying Devolutions Send and would like to limit its usage strictly to secure password sharing (internal and external).
For security, compliance, and governance reasons, we would like to disable file sharing while keeping password sharing enabled.
A configuration option allowing administrators to:

  • Disable file sharing while keeping password sending enabled
  • Apply this restriction globally or via roles/policies

would be extremely valuable in environments with strict security controls.
This would help organizations adopt Devolutions Send while ensuring it aligns with internal security policies.
Thank you for considering this request.

Hi @tchitchirakresp,

I'm curious of the specific controls you're trying to secure here. Do you have an other system where your end users can share files and want to restrict usage to that system? Is there something missing in our file sharing features that would make you more comfortable allowing it? (Like auditability, logs etc).

Cheers,

Hi @Luc Fauvel

Thanks for the question.
Our request is mainly driven by governance and risk management, not by missing features in Devolutions Send itself.
We already have approved tools dedicated to file sharing, with controls aligned to our internal security and compliance policies (DLP, auditing, data classification, etc.).

Our intent is to position Devolutions Send as a secure and simple solution for sharing passwords/secrets only, not as a general file transfer tool.
File sharing carries a different risk profile than credential sharing and falls under stricter internal controls in our environment.
Having the ability to disable file sharing while keeping password sharing enabled would make it much easier for us to broadly adopt Devolutions Send while staying aligned with our internal policies.

Cheers,
