phisical keyboard cannot type some chars

I'm using RDP on Honor Magic7 Pro, an Android phone.
All is perfect except some keys dont work with RDP

  1. 'plus' or 'equals' key. They works fine outside RDP
  2. all keys in number pad, regardless of num lock on/off

I have tried encode key with unicode, which makes things worse, in which case only 'space' key works.

Hello,
Thank you for reporting this issue. We attempted to reproduce the behavior but were unable to do so. To help us investigate further, could you please provide the following information:

  1. Are you using the on-screen (soft) keyboard or a physical keyboard?
  2. If you are using a physical keyboard, what is its layout? (e.g., QWERTY, AZERTY, or others)
  3. What is the language of your device? You can find this in Android Settings > System > Languages > System Languages.
  4. What is the language of your on-screen keyboard? This can be found in Android Settings > System > Keyboard > On-Screen Keyboard.
  5. If applicable, what is the language of your physical keyboard? You can find this in Android Settings > System > Keyboard > Physical Keyboard.
  6. In RDM, what keyboard layout is being used for the RDP session? This can be checked by editing your RDP entry under Local Resources > Keyboard Layout.
  7. What type of remote desktop session are you connecting to? For example, is it a Windows Server computer, a Linux computer, or something else?

Hi
Feedback as following. Thanks

  1. I'm using a physical (bluetooth) keyboard
  2. QWERTY layout
  3. I've tried Chinese and English, both behave the same
  4. My UI is Settings -> System & Updates -> Language & Input -> Keyboards, it has no 'On-screen keyboard' item.
  5. My UI is Settings -> Accessibility features -> Physical Keyboards. It has no 'language' item.
  6. RDP keyboard layout is 'Default', if I try to change setting, RDP will quit abnormally.
  7. I'm connecting to a Windows computer.

Hello,

Thank you for your response. We will investigate the issue further and attempt to reproduce the sudden crash that seems to occur when trying to change the RDP keyboard layout.
In the meantime, could you please try the following steps and let us know if they affect the behavior:

  1. Navigate to Application Settings -> Sessions -> Unified Remote Connection Settings -> Display, and enable the option "Enable keyboard layout compatibility mode". Does the behavior remain the same (with Unicode On or Off)?
  2. Navigate to Application Settings -> Sessions -> Unified Remote Connection Settings -> Display, and enable the option "Disable local IME". Does the behavior remain the same (with Unicode On or Off)?

Best regards,
Frederick Simard

Hello

  1. The two options (Enable...compatible mode/Disable local IME) can be turned ON from the UI, but cannot be saved, NO save button. If I open the UI later, they remain OFF. Seems need an update?
  2. with the two options off(as default), toggle Unicode On/Off behaves differently
    1. Unicode ON, nothing can be typed excep 'space'
    2. Unicode Off, remains the situation I reported earlier, 'plus' cannot be typed.

Thanks

Hi,

could you test the keyboard with the Microsoft RDP Android app and let us know if it works as expected?

Hi Frederick
I've tried the latest version 2024.3.4.4, still cannot save the two settings you mentioned.

Hi Nicolas
Microsoft RDP Android quickly flash out after connected. You are doing better than MS.

Hi,

We are currently working on keyboard improvements. These improvements should be available in the February release.

Regarding the settings that are not being saved, we have attempted to reproduce the issue multiple times and in various ways but have been unsuccessful. Unfortunately, without being able to replicate the problem, it becomes challenging to identify and implement a fix.

Hi Nicolas

Thanks for your reply, looking forward to the new update.
And It seems I've found why the settings cannot be saved:

  1. I'm using the PC mode of the mobile phone, in which mode there are two displays, one is the phone's OLED, the other is an external monitor connected via type-c
  2. I usally edit the settings with the external large screen monitor, which always fail
  3. Now edit with the phone's OLED, the settings can be saved(with these settings on, the keyboard issue remains the same)
