Warp Terminal integration

Dear Devolutions,

please it would be great to have support for Warp Terminal I think a lot users would love it.
https://www.warp.dev/

its supported on macOS, Linux and also Win (WSL).

I would love to open ssh sessions embedded into my RDM client in Warp intstead of iterm which is the only currently supported alternative to basic macos terminal. You think that would be possible?

Thanks a lot
Michal

Hello,

Before answering anything I just want to clarify the situation a bit.
RDM Mac use it own terminal and is not supporting Iterm as an embedded terminal anymore.
Unless you have been using an older version of RDM, it should be our terminal and not Iterm that you are using.

So just to be sure, when you are saying embedded Iterm, are you talking about our terminal?

Best regards,

Hi Michel,

yes you are right, iterm is usable just as "open external" option in RDM, and in RDM settings I can choose between macos terminal and iterm. I did not write it clear enough.

And well both options would be nice,
embedded Warp would be the best option I think, but also "open external" with Warp would be good, if it would log me in to target using credentials saved in RDM.

Thanks

Hello Michal,

For now, the main focus of our team is to keep working on our integrated terminal and there
is sadly no plan to integrate another terminal in the foreseeable future. Also. Warp code being close
rule out embedding it in RDM. We can see if opening it in external is an option but it might take some time.

If there any feature you are really interested in, you can always make a feature request so we can look into that more specifically.

Best regards,

sure, there are two main features I use on daily basis

  1. integration with AI - I can just ask or get autocompleted commands even in remote ssh sessions, its huge time-saver
  2. remote shell features movable cursor with moues, using cmd+a, cmd+c... to manipulate text, navigating through command blocks easily etc. there is a lot :)

you think its possible to do also in your terminal somehow?

thanks

Hello Michal,

So I have talked with the developpers working on our terminal about your request.

1) About the AI integration : they don't close the door, but if they work on it, it is going to be a really long term project without any guarantee or ETA.
2) About the remote shell features, cursors with mouses and cmd action : we are going to have to ask you for more details. We already have some of those features, so we will need to know specifically what is missing to be able to add it.

Best regards,

Hi,

thanks for the answer. In that case It could be great, to just support the feature "open externally" like it is now supported with iterm on macOS. This way RDM would just open warp and inject there ssh credentials/key etc...

and about the features, what Im missing is using cmd+a to select current line of output in SSH, now I need to use mouse to select text. and second feature that would help to be able to move cursor in terminal in current line using mouse same way as we are now doing with arrow keys.

thanks

Hello MichalMasek,

I have opened a feature request for integrating warp terminal as an Add-on. I will warn you now, if we can do it, it will be more in the vicinity of 2025.
Even as an add-on it can be quite a bit of work and there's a bit of exploratory work to do to see if it can work before we can actually work on integrating it (does it take external command, can we send informations through those command, etc).

So in the meantime if there anything else, don't hesitate to communicate with us.
Best regards,

Michel Lambert

Hello Michel,

I would like to refresh this topic. Warp terminal is getting better all the time, now they are supporting also windows natively along with mac and linux.
It will be a great enhancement for devolutions to integrate this powerful software I believe a lot of users might appreciate this.

Please can we get fresh information about this?

thanks
Michal

Hello,

We have looked into it but we can already tell that if we are able to integrate it, it will take a while.

Warp terminal is a proprietary application, so there's limit on what we can do with it. We will need to enter in communication with them to see what we need and within what limit we can legally integrate it before we can start looking at the how we integrate it.

It is usually a long and tedious process and while we don't close the door on the idea, it is not considered a priority for now and we don't really have an ETA as to when we will be able to start working on it. We will keep you updated if anything change.

FYI granted I'm a Windows user but now days I've started to use Windows Terminals Copilot feature (Canary only though) but for general release builds there are a number of available libraries that would prob duplicate many of Warps features mainly AI stuff I would assume, One I noticed fairly recently which has been working quite well especially its Azure Copilot option bundled preset. AI Shell which I'm sure is dev'd by Microsoft, just thought id mention this as I too have tried Warp but its main selling point is its AI capabilities which are recreatable with libraries. So would certainly lighten the load for the Devolution teams and use the Terminal build Devolutions intended we use while still fulfilling us users use cases....
