Automatic authentication selection box in RDM for Devolution server Data source
0 vote
Hi, currently there are many ways to authenticate in devolutions, the issue is when configuring devoltions servers as data source in RDM and then authenticating it will ask which one to use.
When a lot of simple users are using RDM it can cause issues.
It would be great if there would be a checkbox or dropdown to select default authentication type like OKTA so it can be baked into the custom MSI for wide installations.
Hello,
Thank you for your request. You're right, the first login from RDM will prompt you the authentication list and the user has to select the right one. Once it is done, it should always reuse that authentication type to login. Is it the behavior that you see ? Or your users have to select it on every login ? If it is the case, let me know the DVLS version that you are using, it could be an issue.

Hi, thanks I know it should remember they auth type but not always, it needs the browser cache and if that is cleared so will the choice.
Also we are about to deploy RDM for 100+ users, they are not the sharpest pencils and I'm positive it will raise a lot of questions.
In stuff like these reducing user's options is the best, so having the chocie baked in the installer or even better at the GPO level will be really helpful.
There's this setting under Administration/Server Settings/Authentication. But it doesn't have an option for Microsoft which is annoying.
I think this would be the best solution. Display only the primary method but have a link at the bottom to other methods that people may need to use occasionally.

Hello @benseroussi,
I understand your point, you would like to bypass even the first time to avoid confusion. How many authentication type do you support ? Which one you would like to be selected even on the first login ? I just want to be sure that our solution would work for you.
@sjames brought a possible solution if what you want to use is Microsoft. But it would not work for other authentication type. Thank you @sjames for your suggestion. We will see what could be done.

Hello,
somewhat related to the discussion at https://forum.devolutions.net/topics/39443/skip-the-choose-your-authentication-method-page
the link for alternate login methods is a good idea. Other ideas have included a countdown timer for the prefered/default option, and/or a seperate sub URL which can be accessed directly for users who need the non-standard authentication method, (i.e. DVLS admins)
Thanks
Joe
@francois I used Microsoft in my example, but the admin could set the primary method to Devolutions Server (or any other method) and it would show JUST that option instead, with the "alternative methods" option down the bottom. It would just look like this instead:

We are using only OKTA ( and Devolutions for backup admin).
We still have a few AD users but they will be migrated soon anyway.

For devolutions there are links now since 2024 I want to be able to have the same option in RDM itself:

Hello,
Thank you all for your suggestions. We understand that an extra click can be annoying. We will analyze that and see how we could improve it.
