Unlocking

Comparing the fingerprint unlocking in this app with my banking app, I find this rather frustrating.

My banking app (NatWest from UK) is set up for fingerprint use. As soon as it has loaded it asks for the fingerprint. Touch the reader and you are in!

If the screen dims (mine dims after 30 seconds) then the bank app will wake up on touching the FP reader without further ado. I have timed this to at least 55 seconds dimmed - could well be a fair bit longer.

All very convenient.

With Workspace, you first have to tap Unlock and only then does the FP reader work.

Once the screen dims, even for a second, I have to tap unlock and only then redo the fp.

It would add greatly to convenience to emulate the banking app.

Hi, I understand it can be very frustrating. We will add an automatic trigger of the fingerprint when the page load.

Thank you.

Hopefully they can also see to the 2nd point as well.

Hi, yes we will trigger the fingerprint scan as soon as the Lock page will be displayed. It should resolve the second point as well.

I have just discovered the Windows desktop version of Workspace - very impressive.

The only complaint I have is that it takes up rather a large part of the screen. The edges turn into arrows as if to resize the window, but I am unable to resize it.

There really is no need for the width as implemented. Ability to resize would be beneficial.

Just a question: If I log into my account on the desktop version, will it download the existing entries backed up from my phone?

Hi, thank you for your feedback. The Windows version has a known bug that prevents the ability to resize or even move the window. We are working on it and it will be fixed in the next minor version.

To answer your question, it depends on what product you use on Workspace:

  • Password Hub Business: No since the product is entirely cloud-based. In the future, we will add a cache system that will backup your entries locally to improve performances.
  • Password hub Personal: No, same as Business.
  • DVLS: No, it is not a cloud-based product but we do connect to the server through the web to fetch the data. The cache system is also not implemented yet.
  • Authenticator: Yes, the entries and saved locally and can be synced with a Password Hub Personal for a backup purpose.

I hope this answers all your questions.

Its the Authenticator that I'm after. If I log into the same account on the desktop version as my phone, will that then download what the phone has saved?

Hi, unfortunately it won't. The only way to sync your entries between your 2 devices is to enable the cloud backup with a Password hub Personal account. Here's how to do it:

If you don't have a Password Hub Personal, you can create one here (It's free)

On your phone:

  1. Go to Settings in your Authenticator app (bottom right bar) and in the 'Cloud backup options' section.
  2. Enable it and click 'Add an application' and Select 'Password Hub Personal'.
  3. It will redirect you to our Login page where you'll be able to log in into your Devolutions Account that's linked to your (newly created) Hub Personal.
  4. You will be redirected to the previous page where you'll be able to select it as your backup Hub.
  5. Once it's done, you can back to the list of your entries and click on the Sync icon at the top right corner.

This way, if you visit this page, you'll see an 'Authenticator app' folder with your entries inside.

On your Desktop app, you can do the same steps you did on your phone and will be able to see your entries.

I actually have a Password Hub Personal.

So I have added that to the desktop version and indeed it has brought in all the settings - after I enabled the backup option.

Now my concern is who is the boss!

Will both the phone and desktop be doing backups?

I presume I need to disable it on the desktop and treat the phone as primary. Then to sync the desktop, I should turn it on, let it sync and then turn it off again.

What if I add something to the desktop, will that sync back to the phone?

In short, what is best practice not to get into a mess?

I did have an issue with the phone and Password Hub Personal.

When trying to open it up, it kept returning an error - so I decided to log out (that was the only option).

That resulted in Password Hub Personal being removed - no longer showing as installed.

So I tried to add it back. As I have 2FA turned on, it asked for the 2FA code.

As I went back to the Authenticator part to get the code, I lost the entries to set up the Password Hub Personal.

Fortunately, I managed to retrieve the setting from backup into the Desktop Authenticator so I could do it again and then use the desktop authenticator to get the 2FA code.

Hi, this is a very good question. Once you have activated the cloud backup option, the boss is Password hub Personal. That means if you modify any entries on your device (mobile, desktop, web, RDM) you have to refresh your entries locally (by clicking the refresh button or by swiping down the entries list on mobile) before making any other modification to the entries.

For your bug, you say that you lost all of your entries in the Authenticator Space after logging out of your Personal Hub? I just want to understand the problem correctly. It is very odd to see that behaviour because we do save the entries locally first and then sync with the cloud server. So if you disable the cloud backup option setting, you just turn off the cloud sync but keep your entries locally.

I think I was not careful with my wording.

I did not lose any 2FA accounts.

When you tap the menu in the top left corner, it originally showed two products - Authenticator and Password Hub Personal.

Once I logged out of PHP the PHP app did not show any more. (That is probably not an issue - I suppose it just means that the app is not running - you are supposed to stay logged in all the time)

So I had to add it again. Doing that was impossible as as soon as I had to enter the 2FA code during the login I had to get back to the Authenticator page and the only way I could do that was with the back arrow at top left. Once I did that and wanted to go back to PHP it was no longer there. So I had to log in again and ....

Oh! I'm sorry for the misunderstanding. For the DVLS space login, we have a small icon of Authenticator in the top bar that shows the [Authenticator] entries while staying on the login page so it's very convenient to copy the codes. We will add it to all of the login pages (Personal & Business).

Just an other usability suggestion to consider:

My app shows 7 accounts - after that I have to scroll down. As the list grows it will become more difficult to find an entry. Currently the order is alpha based on account name. This may or may not be a relevant way to sort the list for convenient use - each user may have different requirements.

I would suggest that organising the accounts by page would be much more convenient. Page 1 would be the most used accounts, and so on.

Allow the user to allocate each account to a specific page. Each page should also have a name and allow the user to select a page by number or by name. Always display page 1 when the app opens

Hi, our plan in the near future is to offer the possibility to rearrange the entries in a custom order. This way, you'll be able to place your "important" entries at the top of the list. Would it be a useful feature for you?

That would definitely be a benefit but would not cater for a user with a very large list of accounts.

Being able to group codes and then sequence them within the group would provide much richer functionality, but maybe I'm going over the top.

Hi, I think you have a very good idea that can help many users. We will look a our options to resolve this issue and make the best out of them.
