Remote Desktop Manager 2022.1 - BETA

avatar

Hello everybody,
We are really happy to release RDM 2022.1 beta version. This is a major update and requires a database update but the new database format is compatible with the previous version. However, please backup your database before installing this beta for a maximum of safety. DVLS 2022.1 is required to use with this version. It's recommended to wait for it's release.

[BC] MySQL and MariaDB are now deprecated data source types (Hub Business is now recommended)

What does this mean? Can we no longer use MySQL/MariaDB with RDM?

What is "Hub Business"? That isn't a listed product on the Devolutions web site. Does it mean Password Hub?

Do we suddenly need to purchase a Password Hub license in addition to our RDM licenses instead of using a free MariaDB databases now?

A less cryptic and more public deprecation post would be appreciated. I do not see what "BC" is defined as, nor what Hub Business is. Maybe all citizens of British Columbia are no longer allowed to use MySQL databases?

You are correct, the message should be clearer. Where did you find this message exactly? App? Release notes? I want to change it but I can't find it.

I blog post will be coming out shortly for the official announcement but in short we will no longer be adding features to the MySQL & MariaDB data sources.

You can keep on using them since no end of life has yet been announced (and won't be for a few years).

As for options going forward. You have a few. For teams you have Microsoft SQL Server (you can use SQL Server Express it's free), Microsoft Azure SQL, Devolutions Password Hub Business or Devolutions Server. Then for individual focused data sources you have many other options including Devolutions Password Hub Personal (this is free).

FYI [BC] is for "breaking change"

Found the text, I wasn't looking at the correct release notes. We will improve it.

[BC] should have actually been an "icon" like this

Do we have any update on when we can expect DVLS 2022 beta will be released?

avatar

Hello,

The DVLS beta version should be available by the end of the week if all our internal tests reach our goals to consider it stable enough for a release.

Thank you for your patience.
