Hotkey Combination to switch between remote monitors

avatar

Dear Sirs,

First of all, thank you for the software and support you provide.

My concern refers to the possibility of switching between screens by combination of keys.
In my case, I need constantly switch between three remote desktops and I have move mouse to the top, activate pop up bar then choose Display->Active Monitor what makes it quite long.

Would appreciate your thoughts on this matter.

BR
Fedor

Hello

Thanks for the feedback. I understand the interface is not ideal if you regularly want to switch the remote display.

I've entered this into our product backlog and we will add a keyboard shortcut for this in the near future. I'll post back here once I have an update on that.

Thanks and kind regards,

Hello again

Wayk Now 2020.1.4 is now available, and adds hotkeys for switching between remote displays.

For Windows, the relevant shortcut is [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[1-9]. On all platforms, the shortcut combination is listed next to the menu item in the session window.

If you have any questions or feedback regarding that, please don't hesitate to post back here.

Thanks and kind regards,

Dear Richard,
I hope this message finds you well.

Sorry didn't see your last text but installed new version today and was surprised with improvements you have done.
This feature is really crucial for me and I thank you for this update.

I don't need corporate edition but will activate it to support your product.
Thank you again for your kind approach to your users!

Best,
Fedor

One more thing in switching the screens. On Mac OS while not in full screen mode all works smoothly but in full screen when I switch to first monitor it connects to second, when I connect to second it connects to third and in reverse. So basically I can never access monitor one except doing it through menu with my mouses.

Hello again

Thanks for the positive feedback!

I was able to reproduce your issue with full-screen mode on macOS, and I understand what's going on. In the "Session" menu, you will find a setting "Apply Key Combinations", and it takes the default value of "Only when using fullscreen".

What this means, is that you have certain key combinations that you may want to "trap" locally, apply on the remote machine, or only apply on the remote machine when in full screen mode. A good example of this would be, if you are connecting from a macOS system to another macOS system and you press [Command]+[Tab] to open the application switcher: on which computer do you want to apply that command? The local or remote system? It's the kind of thing that can be really disruptive if you accidentally switch applications on the wrong machine, so this setting lets you control that behaviour.

There exists a bug with the screen changing shortcuts and that setting; basically when you have this set to "On the remote computer" or "Only when using fullscreen" (and the window is fullscreen), the shortcut will be sent to the remote machine instead of being handled locally. This is an edge case on our side due to the screen changing shortcuts being [Command]+[Option] instead of the usual [Command]+[Shift]; however in this case it was done specifically to avoid conflict with the native "screen capture" shortcuts ([Command]+[Shift]+3/4/5.

To workaround the problem, you can change that option to "On this computer". To avoid having to set that on every connection, you can make it the default by opening Terminal.app and running:

sudo /Applications/WaykNow.app/Contents/MacOS/WaykNow config ApplyKeyCombinations 0

Then entering your password when prompted.

Let me know if that works for you, or it introduces issues with key combinations you'd like to forward to the remote computer. We'll investigate the bug further on our side and I will post back here once there's an update on that.

Thanks and kind regards,
