I am not able to test since we don't have Forticlient here internally, but I think that since the VPN is opened in external mode, the variables is probably not resolved because of this.

I have opened a ticket with our engineering department to validate this information.
The ticket number is RDMW-2174

The fix should work in the latest beta version (2019.1.10.0) with the latest FortiClient add-on version (3.1.1.0)
