Forticlient 5.4.0.0793 latest version not connecting using Forti vpn add-on

avatar

Hello I am using the latest VPN add-on for RDM and when I select the right Tunnel for the drop down it won't connect.
the add-on uses the following command: ipsec.exe -U "username" -P "password" "Tunnel Name"
I get the following error:
conf.c:197 Failed:
0x00000002 = RegOpenKeyA(hKeyBase, "IPSec\Tunnels", &hKeyIPS)
Did not find aps_ipsec_gw info for current active tunnel

When I connect using the Forticlient it all works fine, I have tried running this command in admin mode but I get the same error.

please help.
Thankl you Kind regards,
Erno

Do you know if the tunnel has a space or special char in the name?

Hello David,

no the tunnel has no special characters and/or spaces They all don't work when using RDM

Just for a test, could you try to create a custom VPN with the command line information?

I get the same error when using with custom VPN

And ipsec.exe -U "username" -P "password" "Tunnel Name" in a command line works? have you tried to execute RDM with the Run As Admin?

yes all that you mention I have tried with the same result.

Do you use RDM 32 bit or 64 bit? I'm asking question because I have no idea what could be the problem.

I have tried both the 32 and the 64 bits version.
We have this on other machines aswell so it has nothing to do with the machine.

I have no idea what is the problem if it works from a command line, it should work in RDM.

I think the problem is that the new version is unable to start with command line.
the only thing you can do is start the application and then make a connection.
I hope this will be looked into by Devolutions/Fortinet because this would be a nice thing to have back and working

@existenz404,

Do you have a support plan with Fortinet? Is it possible for you to ask them if they have change/update their command line?

This will be verify helpful for us if you can provide us this information and initiate the contact with them for us. When it's coming from customers, it's easier for us to establish a contact with them.

Best regards,

Hello Erno,
do you need ipsec ?
SSLVPN does the same.

In the FortiClientTools (current version FortiClientTools_5.6.6.1167), you find a FortiSSLVPNclient.exe under SSLVPNcmdline directory.

This can be run with command lines.

I use this with the Fortigate VPn/SSL Addon.

Copy the 4 Files in the folder to C:\Program Files (x86)\Fortinet\SslvpnClient.

This works.
We do not use ipsec anymore for years. SSL VPN is easier to configure and works in the same way like IPSec.

Hi Andreas,

Thanks for this information, I also tested with the last version I have 5.6.2 and with your method it was working fine too.
