OpenVPN 2.4 compatability

avatar

Greetings,

OpenVPN version 2.4.0-I601.
RDM version 12.0.8.0 64-bit.
OpenVPN Add-on version 2.4.0.0.

OpenVPN 2.4 was released a few days ago, with some major changes to the GUI. As a result the RDM OpenVPN addon is no longer able to enter the key password with "Enable automatic key password entry" option enabled (note that username/password via "Enable automatic authentication" does work), nor killing the OpenVPN process with the "Kill existing OpenVPN session before connection" option enabled.

In addition, it seems like sometime ago we have lost the icon to show passwords (eye icon) in the OpenVPN addon.

There might be other issues, I haven't tested everything.

Tried with both RDM + OpenVPN run as administrator and RDM + OpenVPN run as normal user.

Thanks.

Hi,
I have assigned this to one of our dev but he will on vacation next week. He will check this as soon as he get back. I suspect that the dialog title has changed and RDM is unable to detect the prompt window.

Hello,

I'll try and look into this issue tomorrow as we don't have a password-based setup to test against at the moment.

On the other hand, I've been unable to reproduce the "Kill existing openvpn session before connection" issue. Did you try with RDM opened as administrator but OpenVPN opened normally?

Hi,

Yes, as I wrote, I've tried with both RDM and OpenVPN running as administrator, and both running as a normal user.
If you need a password-based environment please let me know, I can probably arrange one quickly.

Hello,

It would be appreciated if you could provide us an environment for testing purposes in case there are other settings that might cause issues, but we will still setup a password-based environment on our end since it will be very useful for tests in the future.
If you would like to provide us the testing environment, you can either send me a private message here or email me at hmireault(at)devolutions.net

I can confirm I received the information. I'll look at this tomorrow morning and keep you updated. Thank you for helping us pinpoint the issue faster :)

Thanks to your test setup I managed to reproduce the auto-fill issue and I cannot reproduce it anymore in version 2.4 of openVPN. You can download the update of the add-on (version 2.5.0.0) here https://remotedesktopmanager.com/Home/AddOn#VpnAddOn_OpenVPN
Could you try it out and see if that issue is fixed in your environment?

As for the problem with killing the openvpn process, I wasn't able to reproduce the issue. I made sure to run RDM as administrator and OpenVPN normally and RDM is able to kill the process properly. Maybe there's something I'm missing, we'll have to check more.

Hi Hubert,

I'm happy we could help pinpointing this issue faster.
I've tested the updated add-on and both issues are fixed. Password is automatically filled, and when starting a new OpenVPN the previous process is killed as expected.

Thanks for the quick fix.
