Hi,
every time I start RDM I am being asked to install Serial Data Entry Addon.
If I answer "Install" it asks to restart after it has installed it.
But, you guess it, it keeps asking for installation of said addon.
I am using RDM 6.5.0.0 Enterprise.
When I look into Help-> About the Addon is listed as installed.
Same thing in Addon-Manager.
Any clues?

Hi,
If you don't install it when you are asked? Does it appear in the about?
David Hervieux
Hi David, I have the same issue. It started with one of the previous beta's.
The pop-up shows at every:
- restart of RDM
- changing datasources to a MSSQL-source
- edit session
Reinstall of RDM didn't solve it. Also keep saying ignore doesn't help.
The addon 'Serial' is loaded in the about-dialog.
1. I did Tools/AddOn.
2. Clicked uninstall add-on.
3. Restarted RDM.
4. After restart, the addon is gone from the about
but the pop-up keeps showing.
When choosing 'install', the addon is installed, again visible in about, but still gives pop-up.
Hope this helps.

Hi, here is what I came through:
uninstalled Addon using AddonManager.
deleted serialdataentryaddon.dll from %userprofile%\appdata\low\devolutions\remotedesktopmanager\
restarted RDM and again being asked to install the "missing addon".
ignored it this time
Now, neither in addon-manager nor in the about-Dialog is this addon shown as installed.
But restarting RDM keeps asking for it.
After again ignoring this, it is shown as installed in addon-manager as well as in the about-Dialog.
But the popups keeps showing.
I was previous on 6.1.3.0 but have completely deleted program-folder of RDM and appdata-folder.
I am running Windows 7 Pro 32-bit with UAC on.

Hi,
the popup just went away.
I updated the binaries with the ones from Sept 16th 06:27.
I also had the problem that sql management studio got not updated (the program found some old 1.0 version deep in my install-source-folder).
so shut RDM and copied sqlserveraddon.dll manually.
After that, sqlserveraddon.dll was properly recognized
AND serialdataentryaddon.dll was NOT asked for.
But sometimes RDM seems to have problems copying files to the destination.
best regards,
Steffen

Hi David,
somehow, I thought it could be related to a data-entry in the list. I removed the entry. After restart the pop-up didn't show.
I recreated a new data-entry, no pop-up! So fixed for me.

I'm having the same problem with this addon. I've tried everything I can think of, but it won't stop asking for it when I launch RDM, and a few other times as I use the app.
Hi,
Do you have the latest version 6.5? Maybe you could just uninstall and install it.
David Hervieux
David, thank you very much. I do have the latest, downloaded today. I was originally using a portable installation, and did a traditional install today. I've tried dropping the dll in various directories, like the RDM directory under Program Files, and the profile directory under users\<me>\local. In a different attempt, I'd I also scanned the registry to find references to it and removed them before reinstalling, not to mention various combinations of Ignore, Install Manually, etc. Basically, everything mentioned in this thread.
If there's only some particular type of profile or a setting of a profile that needs that addon, I might be able to work around it by not using that data/feature, but I don't know what triggers a check/call to that addon.
Hi,
I have thought about something. Could you try to delete the all serial entry and restart the application. Add a new one and verify if you get the message. I will try to reproduce it tomorrow and if I'm still unable to do it I will send you a special build with some debug info.
David Hervieux
Hi David,
I set up RDM on the machine of a colleague.
He had, like me, 6.1.3.0 previously installed.
He noticed the same issue regarding the serialdataentryaddon though it was not installed but pops up as missing.
I noticed that he had also the sqlserveraddon.dll with version 1.0.0.0 previously installed.
So I deleted the old and copied the new one in %appdata%/local/devolutions.
I also noticed that version 1.0 had a filedate of 18.02.2011 whilst the 1.1 had 14.02.2011.
After copying the new file, RDM starts like a charm with no popup.
best regards
Steffen

Steve, you got it. It's a completely my fault. I verified the add-on id and when I have forgotten to change the Add-on ID for the Serial Data Entry. It has the same ID than the SQL Server Add-on. This will be fixed in this morning.

any update on this? I am having the same issue and it is extremely annoying. We just purchased a site license and so we are currently building. Every time I add a device or make a change I get prompted.
Hi,
Just install the SQL Server Add-on
David Hervieux
sorry, but i have done that and it does not work. I have installed by hand, I have uninstalled by hand (deleted .dll's from %appdata%\local\devolutions...), installed automatically, uninstalled automatically. the message does not go away. and yes when I installed manually I did a fresh download of the files.
OK so what finally ended up working for me was deleting all the "Serial" data entries I had. I am glad I only had a few...
I'm really sorry for this bug. Does it work now when you create a new the serial entry?
David Hervieux
yes it works now after deleting all the old "Serial" data entries and then recreating them.
I have to admit my ignorance here: what is a serial data entry? I've searched the help pages for "serial" but only get registration / serial number text.
Hi,
It's an add-on available in Password Vault Manager or in Remote Desktop Manager. This add-on allows you to save your serial numbers in the application. If you have the Enterprise edition with SQL Server, you will be able to give access to only some users.
David Hervieux
OK, thank you. I am a champion misunderstander, so I want to make sure: You mean like serial numbers / registration info for various other software?
Exactly
