When I connected to our remote RDS using the standard RDC that comes with Win 7, my HP USB printer and other networked printers that are connected to my local machine are available to me from the cloud when connected to the remote machine.
However, when I use your Remote Desktop Manager (free), they do not appear, and I'm not sure why. I'm stuck with printing to an XPS file and then having to download that to a local drive and printing it there. I've tried everything I can think of, from manually configuring the connection, to importing it from the standard RDC that comes with Win 7. All I've found in configuration is just a checkbox asking if I want the the printer to be available to me from the cloud machine..
Needless to say that I can not use your RDM when I know I have some printing to do. I'm a developer, I don't always need printers, but when I do I'm usually already connected using your manager. Very inconvenient.
Is there something else I can do or am missing something that will get the printers to show up using RDM?
Thanks.
Marshall
Hi,
Do you have the problem with RDM in external and embedded mode? Have you checked the Local Resources settings in the RDP session?
David Hervieux
I've checked the local resources many times. External is the default. I've tried embedded/tabbed and fukk screen. I tried admin/console mode on/off. I've tried different performance settings.

Hi,
Just to be sure I understand, if you use mstsc.exe without RDM, does it work?
David Hervieux
I realized I may have failed to understand what you meant by 'embedded'. I had though you were talking about the display mode.
I went back and created a session after saving the mstsc session that worked and used that as an embedded RDP file. Now I'm seeing my printers.
But shouldn't I be able to see the printers when I manually configure my sessions, too? What's different?

Hi,
yes in theory you should. Could you send me your RDP file, I will take a look at it. You can edit it to remove the host name if you want.

The above works with the standard RD client, and when 'embedded' in your RD manager.
Below is the export of the rdm file from the RD Manager of the same session, which I had manually configured where the local printers are not seen on the remote machine. I also incloded a rdp export of the same session.

I replaces usernames. servernames and domains with X's or other [placeholders.
Hope this helps you help me. BTW, I have 2 connections, and both give me the same trouble.
Thanks.

Could you create a copy of your RDP file, and try to remove this line?
drivestoredirect:s:Username (\UserFolder]\[SERVERName]\UserFolder) (P;DynamicDrives
Does it continue to work?
try to remove this one after
use redirection server name:i:0
Thank you
David Hervieux
Hi David,
I appoligize for taking so long, but I've been very busy.
>> David said: "Could you create a copy of your RDP file, and try to remove this line?..."
I have not followed your instructions yet, especially since I could not find a RDP file for the session I'm having trouble with. It was manually configured within RDM, so I never actually saved it and have no idea where they are saved by default. I looked in all the usual places, but no luck there.
However, I exported the problem session and then embedded it into a new session without changes. Even though the original session did not show my printers, the embedded version of it did.
Where do I locate the RDP file you refered to so I could try that?
Thanks.
Marshall
You can go in the menu File->Export and create an RDP file
David Hervieux
I did that, and embedding it let gave me access to my local printers.
Did you want me to export and then just access the RDP file for the session instead of embedding it?
Have you tried to use the configured one and opened it embedded? You should not need to use a link. RDM export the RDP file and use it
David Hervieux
