I'm concerned with the user editing the data source.

However, being since the password is masked, I think I can accomplish this without needing to prevent the data source from being edited by the user. I will give each user access to the DB via a username and password that I setup for them, but they will not know their password. I'll then create the RDM Data Source for them and they can import it. If an employee leaves the company for whatever reason, I can then simply change their password on the SQL Server and they won't be able to access the data anymore.

Also, I won't allow offline mode on the data source.

But it's not exactly what you asked, it's not password protected, which mean that the user will never be able to edit the session until he use another login.
