Hi Stefane,

Spoke todat a number of colleagues who previously reported problems and those I spoke indicate that things are going a lot faster :-) Also I performed many different functionalities and for now also a 'smiley'.
To get a good picture I 'll ask all the users for feedback next week as they've worked with it for more days. I will inform you about this.

Regarding the 'Index Maintenance' I already did run that a number of times before but that really gave minimal improvement compared to the index adjustment we made. We also several times deleted the Queryplans (freeproccache) but also minimal approvements.

Thanks for the support and I'll send as soon as possible the results/feedback.

Have a nice weekend!

Marcel

Hi Stefane,

Database Schema sended :-)
New index created and Index Maintenance done.

First impression after several times starting and using random functions:

Switching vault to private fault --> extremely faster as before
Check In and Check -Out --> Work perfectly, this has to be workable for the users
Overall performance quick look --> No complaints

I'll do everything again tomorrow during work-hours and inform you about this.

Hi Stefane,

For your information (I'll send you the output private) a query I started on our RDM DB:
Maybe you can get more information for some performance problems.

Hi Stefane,

As there were general complaints with the use of RDM here I sent all users a questionnaire internally in which they could indicate performance problems.
Here I also asked to indicate where, home, customer, work and with or without VPN ect.

As soon as I have completed this overview I will first check with the user(s) whether this problem is indeed present, and will bundle it and then give feedback to you. So far I have received a feedback from about half of all users where 30% indicating that starting RDM takes a long time, checking in-out and switching from vaults. I will keep you informed about this.

Hi Stefane,

Nice feature :-).
I'll send you the output from the script in a private message and as already told, my personal size is big..
For now you can close this post.

I'll first carry out further internal research for the users that experience problems with RDM. This concerns a little part of all users and first I want to see if this has other causes.

Thnx for your answers and help.

Tnx for the input/responce Stefane :-)

I'll run this script tomorrow (Time here GMT A'dam) and in any case I can state that under my account many Private 'things' will certainly be present, given my RDM history and using it :-) .Internally we also referred ofcourse to the private vault to all of our users with which we also want to prevent local Password Storage.

Let you know!

Hello Hubert,

A short question, considering that we're also looking internally what can cause this. Are there specific ports RDM necessarily needs?
This because we see a clear difference if we connect directly (from my home address) to the azure SQL database or if we connect trought the company VPN.

Hi Hubert,

Unfortunately I notice a performance problem when checking OUT en Checking IN a credential. RDM is frozen for a few seconds.
See that this querie takes a long time:

--> select a.*, s.*, p.*, p.ID as 'UserProfile.ID'
from dbo.UserAccount a
inner join dbo.UserSecurity s on a.ID = s.ID
left outer join dbo.UserProfile p on p.UserID = a.ID
where s.UserType = 0
and (upper(s.Name) = upper(@Name) or upper(s.Name) = upper(@Alias));

I send you the logfiles to your emailaddress.
Happens in all versions btw..

Hi Hubert,

Just installed release 2019.2.6.0 and this version is working great and even beyond expectations. Very fast in the functionality which in the indicated versions before gave significant problems. Super!

In any case, if needed I can send you the profiler logs from here with the version 2019.2.5.0, I'll generate them if I see time for this.
(With this new version I don't see the message(s) "Tread was being aborted" in the Application Log)

Regards, and thanks for this new release ;-)

Hello Hubert,

Thnx for your reply and I will ensure that these files become avaliable as quickly as possible for you.
At the moment I can't switch to the 2019.2.5 release given the work I'm currently working on. And naturally want to work 'quickly' with RDM :-)

I certainly try to give feedback this week.

After doing some tests with different releases to investigate significantly lower performance, I note that the releases after release 2019.1.41 all have that performance prob. Going back to 2019.1.41.0 it was 'as usual'.

When selecting for example a credential-session the Dashboard-pane needs a few to many seconds before the data/information from that session is available and visible in the dashboard. During that time RDM does not respond and the Dashboard section is 'black'.
Found here in release 2019.2.3.0 and 2019.2.5.0 and after reinstalling release 2019.1.41.0 this was workable again. (Just to be sure, I went to release 2019.2.5 again and the problem was present again)

64 bit, MFA Azure SQL dtatabse, around 8000 sessions in maps.

Do more users have this behavior and is this known and reproducible for you?

Hello David,

Indeed.. In RDM we have various accounts with password entries that are used for sessions that are not avaliable in RDM (example AEM-Datto external Remote session where now these entries have to be Copy - Past for login) These entries have set the Check-out mode 'manual' so they can be used just for one user at a time (what is the intention) As soon as a user has finished his work, he will Check-In this entrie making it avaliable again for other users. In practise we see that this is sometimes forgotten and with a popup when closing RDM it would at least make the user aware that he has still Checked-Out entries.

Hope I've made it a bit clear with this, but should you have any questions please ask :-)
Regards,

Marcel

When closing RDM there is the option and message to show if there are open sessions and with that users get the message, 'You have one or ore sessions opened, do you want to close the application' ..
Is it possible to show/indicate also that sessions/credentials currently are Checked-Out by the user?

Hi David,

For the scenario that I am referring to, it is actually a standard user who has in basic access to various folders in RDM and then for a given time, one or more folders/sessions need to be avaliable for him also (activated with a timebased -role).
A time restriction option as you suggested per user would certainly, to me anyway, a nice to have option in RDM. This could certainly be nice, for example when hiring external consultants for a certain period/time.

4 mths Integration between RDM and Autotask

Unfortunately there is currently no API for Datto | RMM (Autotask)
Maybe to get started (And as we use here) with some variables which then start the RDP functionality from RDM.
We created a session CMD line:
Start: $AEMGUID$ (variable: "C:\Program Files (x86)\CentraStage\Gui.exe"wink
Arguments:$AEMCAG$$CUSTOM_FIELD3$ (variable AEMCAG : cag:///?type=rdpclient&deviceid=)

Where the custom fields are filled with:
CUSTOM_FIELD1:Hostname
CUSTOM_FIELD2Big Grinescription
CUSTOM_FIELD3Big GrineviceId
and:
Variable $AEMWINDOW$ : {WINDOW: $CUSTOM_FIELD1$ - $COMPANY_NAME$ - AEM}

Custom fields 1 and 2 (together with Company Name) we use for the session name and (option. 2MFA@Autotask could give probs first time starting a session) for injecting the credentials to the correct form (using Macro in Event - After connectupset$AEMWINDOW$$AEMCREDENTIALS$) and logging in, so they are not mandatory for start the RDP. only DeviceId is needed for starting the session.
This allows users from RDM to start the relevant RDP as happened in Datto | RMM (autotask).

Recently a new function has been added, namely Web RDP. With this you only have to add the DeviceId to the address to start this RDP via https Weblink:
https://merlot.centrastage.net/csm/remote/rto/-DeviceId-
Unfortunately no possibility to auto inject the credentials in this Web RDP yet for me ..... Maybe the specialists @ Devolutions can ?

Perhaps an option for remote desktop manager based on current use with us. For various folders that are available / visible for specific groups (Custom permission - role) it sometimes happens that a consultant is added (which does not have this role) and for which we then assign a TmpRole to this user and he therefore can make these connections.

At the end of the day, or when he is done with his work, this role will be removed from this consultant. Is it possible to have this last operation performed automatically by RDM, for example, that you can assign a role to a user who then (adjustable when assigning) automatically disappears again after a certain time, or day, with this user.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.

When using a jumphost the text color of the name turns green and making it rather unclear in contrast to the normal session name. The session icon is already provided with a jump icon so the difference is already visible.
My suggestion would be to keep the session name text color at least the same in Remote desktop manager and session differences only by keeping an addition in / to the icon ?

Hi David,

Did you already have the opportunity to investigate/analyse this further? In the new beta I see that the problem is still present, even if I create a new template en want to import it again in RDM.

If you have any concerns or questions let me know.

Hi David,

Actually we follow the standaard way, rightklik on the folder in main, choose Add --> Add from template --> template from list. (screenshot 1) In the following form (screenshot 2) the OK button is not avaliable (grayed-out).

8 mths Lock for further use, or automatic Check-out, credential entry for RDP session

Hi Jeff,

As far as I can see the auto check-out on the choosen credentials is not working if you use the option -Prompt on connection- and choose the credential to use from the one off the credentials in a seperate map in the RDP session. The CheckIn/CheckOut that is activated on the credential session does not 'react' if it is choosen in the 'to use' credential from that RDP session.
Maybe screenshot will give you more information...

We start the session RDP (SRVTS01 where we can choose from the give credentials from a seperate map (option in propereties from RDP, choose from Credentials repositiry, promp on connection) If we choose a credential from that list the RDP session is opened and working but the choosen credential is still to use fot other RDP sessions. Is it possible to lock, ot auto Chekin/Checkout that credential?

8 mths Lock for further use, or automatic Check-out, credential entry for RDP session

We are currently working hard to test RDM internally to see if we are going to use it and have the following question:
For some customers we have several remote desktop sessions available for consultants and where we use the login via the option -prompt on connection-

The credentials avaliable for this RDP session can than be chosen from a specific credentials folder. These rdp sessions may be used multiple times by other consultants but not with a already 'in use' credential. Is there a way to accomplish this, for example that a credential entry that is already in use for this RDP session is automatically checked-out and automatically released when closing this RDP session ?
If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.

Marcel
