I am trying to add an Azure SQL Datasource using my Azure Active Directory account. I have MFA enabled so I've generated an App Password using the process described at https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/multi-factor-authentication/end-user/multi-factor-authentication-end-user-app-passwords#manage-app-passwords-in-the-Azure-portal.

When I click Test Database I get the following error:

Unable to connect to the database!

Failed to authenticate the user blah@blah.com in Active Directory (Authentication=ActiveDirectoryPassword).
Error code 0xCAA90002; state 10
WSTrust response does not have recognized SAML assertion.

Hmm...I'll give it a go. Is there any possibility that $Result.Password can be a SecureString?

Starting to think it might be better to write a datasource addon instead.

I'd be more comfortable doing the integration in C#. I can see the interface IRemoteDesktopManagerCredentialProvider which seems to be the right interface to implement. It's not obvious what the SelectDatasource(string databaseID); method is suppose to do. I also can't figure out how to get RDM to pickup the assembly that implements IRemoteDesktopManagerCredentialProvider. Adding it to the RDM folder didn't seem to work.

I'd be happy to write the provider myself if you can point me to the right interface to implement.

There doesn't seem to be any documentation anywhere on how to create a credential provider. Can someone point me in the right direction.

When you store secrets in key vault they are just an octet sequences with a maximum size of 25kb each. So for example you could serialise a data structure to JSON and store it safely in key vault.

I was actually thinking as both a login to RDM and as a data source.

There is a lot of information available and yes they have an SDK:
https://azure.microsoft.com/en-au/services/key-vault/
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/key-vault/key-vault-use-from-web-application

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/key-vault/key-vault-developers-guide
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/mt430941.aspx
https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/kv/2015/06/02/azure-key-vault-step-by-step/

I have quite a bit of experience with Azure Integration and Azure Key Vault. I'm not all that familiar with RDM add-on so I'd be happy to help out on the Azure side if someone can assist with the RDM integration.
