Hi,

I recently moved our RDPM Database to a new SQL Server and switched to ad integrated security (no more local users, finallysmile )
We have some old security groups we dont need anymore with a few sessions assigned to them:

- What happens to those sessions if I delete the group? Are they switched to no group?
- Is there a way to see all sessions assigned to a certain group?

And also a feature request.
Adding several users form ad was really annoying.
Every time I have to switch from my local machine to the domain manually and then I can only add one user at a time and no groups.
Maybe I did something wrong and didnt see the option?

Thank you

Its no important feature whatsoever, just a really nice to have smile

Yes, only on my notebook.
I have a ton of vpn clients installed on it, maybe they are interfering?
Any suggestions?

Thx

Love the new beta versions.
No major problems with it thus far.
Running 8.9.8.0 on server 2012 (used as a client machine)
Feels much faster than before, especially datasource loading on startup (2000+ entries)

Two things:

- Only a minor request. The new design integrates perfectly with office 2013. I´d love to be able to set the color to dark grey in rdpm though.(didnt find the option)

- Got a problem with offline mode on my bitlocker encrypted notebook (for a long time now, not just with this beta version). Just wont open the datasource when i´m offline. I can switch to offline mode and back when I am connected to company network (which kinda defeats the purpose), as soon as I am disconnected rdpm freezes on start.
Win7 SP1 client, 8.9.8.0 rdpm, sql datasource, using sql native user.
Laptop is not domain joined.
I can provide logs if you want.

It says "Loading sessions ..." and then after a while "A network related or instance specific error occured while establishing connection to sql server.....""

Hi,

we are using rdpm enterprise since 2009.
It has become such an important tool for us that we can´t afford downtime, none.
Not that we had any in all those years smile.
There are several DB dumps and different methods of backup performed daily to tape, nas and my local machine.
As rdpm gets more functions (credentials, documents, serials, ect...) it also becomes more critical for our business.
So we need more security and we want to add a second (live) database copy on a new vm running on another cluster in another building.

Our database is running on a server 2008 vm with sql express 2008. The one I setup when first trying out rdpm and its still the same.
We have prepared a new vm with sql server 2012 express.

I asked one of our db guys what options there are to make a db redundant. (I´m no db guy myself, thank god smile)
But before we progress any further I wanted to ask if there are best practices / recommendations how to accomplish such a setup.

What we want is a copy of our live rdpm database on another server. (1 day lagged copy could make sense)
In case that the main machine fails for whatever reason and to avoid waiting for the restore to complete we want to able to switch our rdpm clients to the second server.
I noticed that there is an option for "Failover Partner" in advanced datasource settings.

Thank you.

Hi,

the default action for credential entries has changed, right?

So a double click does not send it to clipboard anymore.
I can change that for each individual entry, which is no option for us. (just way to many entries)

What is the default action "default" that is selected and where can i change that ?

Hi,

Not sure if this is even a problem for rdpm forum, but ill give it a try.
I just reinstalled my admin workstation with server 2012 (much better than win8 imo), using

rdpm 8.0.25.0 beta
openvpn 2.3.0-l004

UAC is on default.
I am local admin.
Everything is setup for desktop experience.

rdpm cant find the login window from openvpn gui to input the login data.
The login window pops up and sits there.

RDPM display a coutdown and then displays a warning.

Except for this really minor problem everything else is working just fine.
Much better than on win7 even.
This is independent from rdpm of course, but everything (including rdpm) feels just so much more responsive.

edit:
just noticed that the vpn client was not set to english.
When I set it to english, the prompt now has the correct title and it does not show anymore.
So RDPM is able to catch it, but still no connection is made.
RDPM displays the same warning after the timeout.
edited by Aurum on 2/22/2013

edit2:
when changing the language the openvpn Daemon process hung in the background. So even manually opening a connection didnt work anymore.
killed it and now rdpm + opepn vpn work fine just like they always used too.

So the plugin depends on the language setting for openvpn gui

Hi,

When a credential entry gets changed, is there a backup of the previous password somewhere?
like in Keepass. Every Time you change an entry, a backup of it is created in the "backup" folder.

Hi,

just tried out the 8.0.12.0 release and noticed that copying credentials from the repository to clipboard by double clicking is not working anymore.
Downgraded back to 8.0.10.0 and works again.

Is there a setting that has changed?
Is this by design?

Thank you

Hi,

thx for the info.

So what would you recommend we use?
We are using enterprise version with ms sql database.

Where ever possible we use credential repository, but sometimes we get a complete documentation (i.e. when we get a new customer) as word file oder whatever. We usually copy&paste that to the rdpm db.

Hi,

just wondering whats the difference between

- Session -> Documents -> Text

and

- Data Entry -> Note/Secure Note

am I correct in assuming that the first is saved in plaintext in the database while the other is encrypted?

Works like a charm smile

1. Create your template folder with sessions
2. export to .rdm file
3. edit the exported .rdm file, replacing the xxx and yyy values
4. create new folder
5. import the modified file, when asked hit -> add anyway.

If you export the content of the new folder again you will see ne IDs

Could have thought of that a long time ago.

copies the ID too, creation date and everything.
More work that way than creating new sessions

I think exporting the group to rdm, modifying the rdm file and then reimporting looks promising.
But im not sure what would happen if I click "Add anyway" when reimporting the modified rdm file.

I dont really want to make any experiments with our productive database.

Ill make a database copy and test.

Hi,

this is not quite what I was looking for but definatly a step in the right direction.
It copies the template as is (including the XXX and YYY values of course).
So it sill requires manual editing of each single session entry.

Is there a way to export the #template folder, modify it with notepad and reimport it?
I exported as .rdm and modified it, but when i try to import the file it says the sessions already exists, probably because of the id.

I did not dare to click "add anyway"

Hi,

I asked this once before but we never really got it to work and now with the new version I thought I might give it another try.

What we want to accomplish is to add a new office (lets take Berlin as an example) to our rdpm database from a template folder (already in rdpm).
All the offices are identical (Hardware, IP Addresses, links, ect....) the only difference is the name (we use airport designations) and the subnet of course.

I created a folder in our database called #template, containting all subfolders (switches, ups, esxi, ect.....) and sessions.
In all the sessions names i put "XXX" instead of the real name (for the example it would be BER) and in all the ip´s in place of the subnet there is "YYY".

There are no credentials in the template sessions

So a session in this template folder looks like

XXX-SW-001 with configuration http://10.20.XX.21

and so on (in total its about 25 session entries)

Now (assuming I explained it comprehensibly smile) what I want is a way to duplicate this entire #template folder including all sub folder and sessions, replace the XXX values with BER and YYY with "25"

A collegaue suggested to export the #template folder to a .rdm, use an editor to quickly change XXX and YYY values and to reimport the modified .rdm file.
Im not sure if this is a good idea because the IDs for the sessions entires would be the same.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
I have been asked about this feature a lot and never was able to figure out how to do it right.

If I have been going about this in a completely wrong way and there is a much simpler way to achieve this, please enlighten me.

Thank you very much

Ok.
Then we will export as a .rdm file if you dont have any other recommendation.

Thank you

edit:
Assuming we have suffered a catastrophic failure of our infrastructure, is there (in theory) a way to decode the safepasswords (from a print out)?
We do of course have several layers of redundancy, backups, ect., but still, would it be possible?

I just made a test exporting our db to a rdm file (3,3mb), then importing this file to a local xml datasource.
Works as expected with credentials intact, just took some time to import.

Hi,

for security and documentation reasons we would like to export our complete (sql) database to a xml file, including all credentials in plaintext.
We plan to print it out and put it in a safe at our bank.
So I tried File->Export->Export Data Entry->Export all data entries(xml)
I selected the Sessions root of course.

It only exports 2 (random) sessions with a file size of 1 KB.
Exporting as .rdm file works fine, but the credentials are encrypted.

Thank you for your help

Hi,

our license ran out and we got a new one.
As usual I made a custom installer package using my config as a template.
This includes datasource settings, account for datasource and license key.

Problem is, when I install the new package the license doesnt get applied (on clients where the old one was active).
Which results in an error message because it tries to connect to an enterprise datasource.
I do overwrite the current config with the new one when it asks, still doesnt work though.
This is a big problem on our terminal server.
I assume the config of rdpm is saved under C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Devolutions\RemoteDesktopManager , right?
If i manually delete that folder, then reinstall everything is fine.
So what are my options, create an install script that deletes the config before installation?
Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Thank you very much

edit:
Has the way the license is saved changed?
In the old profiles I find a .license file which doesnt seem to have any effect anymore.
I copied the .cfg file manually overwriting the old one and it seems to work.
