I utilize Resident OpenSSH keys to connect to all of my Linux servers, and have a use case where I must run an application on a Windows Virtual Machine which will then connect from that VM into various Linux servers.
In my previous workflows I was locally using a Windows client to connect over standard RDP, and then when utilizing my Resident SSH keys in the remote application the VM was able to see the local Yubikey and utilize it for connectivity without any issues. This worked as long as webauthn and smartcard passthrough were enabled in the mstsc client.
I need to perform that exact same workflow but using RDM on Linux as the local client. I can't get the VM to detect that any smartcard or webauthn devices are present, so I cannot utilize them for authentication on the remote VM. Any assistance would be appreciated.
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Devolutions Support.
Could you please confirm whether the Smart cards or Windows Hello for Business option is enabled in your RDP entry properties?
I believe this is the setting you're looking for.
You can find it under:
Entry Properties → RDP → Local Devices and Resources
Please let me know if enabling this option resolves the issue.
If the problem persists, could you also provide the following information?
I look forward to your reply.
Best regards,
Jacob Lafrenière
Hello
To add to what Jacob wrote, is WebAuthN redirection a strict requirement for what you are trying to achieve? It was only recently added to RDM Linux and I'm not sure that feature has actually been released yet or not.
Smart card passthrough should work as long as smart cards are redirected in the local resource section. To look for problems here, I might recommend setting the environment variable WLOG_LEVEL=DEBUG and then launching RDM from that same terminal; then launching an RDP session. The log output may be large so you might consider redirecting it to a file. And then send that to me by PM.
Please let me know if something isn't clear
Thanks and kind regards,

Hi @destarianon,
This feature has not yet been released in RDM Linux. It should be available in 2026.2.2. We will update this thread when we have a specific date in mind for its release.
Best regards.
