Multi Monitor Session Recording

Hello,

Users want to be able to connect via RDP with dual screens. Looking at the documentation, it says the display mode should be set to external. When trying to connect, I get the error "The session requires session recording; it cannot be opened externally". I want to be able to connect with dual screens and also record the screen. Is such a feature available or is it included in your roadmap? Thank you.

Yes you're correct this is currently a limitation, but it's an artificial one. Session recording is essentially an RDM feature rather than a Gateway one - Gateway receives the frames and transcodes the video, but the actual recording happens client side. We rewrote the session recording for RDP in RDM 2025.3 and the way it's done now, it is possible to record an external session; but we haven't integrated that into RDM yet. It's informally been on my todo list to add this, but now I'll go ahead and make a ticket for that and we'll prioritize it internally. I'll link the ticket to this forum post so you can be notified once that's done.

One uncertainty I have is if MultiMon changes something for the recording. I suspect not, but we'll only learn that once we've enabled the feature.

Thank you for your reply. Does the development you mentioned also include the Launcher? We use the Launcher instead of RDM.

Indeed RDM and Launcher share the same code here, so a fix in one is the same as the other.
