Free License seemingly without restrictions

Free License seemingly without restrictions

Hello,

I have just finished setting up Devolutions Server and need to use the free license for the start.
I eighter overlooked the "free" button on initial Setup or it didn't appear. I can create users and just tested it to see if the limit of 10 applies but it just kept creating users and I stopped at 17 or so.
Everything seems to work but Iam worried that there is just a grace period and it will eventually stops to work.

The license page in DVLS also does not show anything.

Is there any way to implement the free license after the fact if I have overlooked it on setup?

Thanks!

Hello Florian,

With our recent licensing changes, it’s now possible to use Devolutions Server for password management without any licenses. In this mode, you can still create users and use the password management capabilities as you’ve seen.

However, please note that users without licenses are not officially supported — meaning you won’t have access to technical support since it requires a paid license.

So what you’re seeing is normal: there’s no “free” button anymore. You can continue using the server this way if it meets your needs, or add licenses later if you want to enable support.

Oh thank you very much for the reply. I was quite worried I messed it up and need to redo the process.

Since Devolutions Server Free is meant for 10 Users as per some articles on the official site does that mean that we would be still eligible for Support if we stay below 10?

@floriankieschnick
You’re very welcome!

No worries — you did everything correctly.

Yes, as long as you have an active Remote Desktop Manager Team Edition license, you’re eligible for support.

Hello @floriankieschnick ,

Thanks for your question!

I’d like to let you know that our Free license model will be changing in an upcoming version of Devolutions Server.

The new Free edition will be limited to a single user. However, that user will still be able to use RDM with all its powerful features — which remains a great option for individual use.

That said, adding additional users will now require a license. This change allows us to better align our licensing model with different usage scenarios while continuing to offer a robust free solution for personal needs.

Thanks for your understanding and continued support!

Hi @François Dubois ,

that's good to know but also very unfortunate. Pitching Devolutions Server for our small team was not easy but if I now have to pitch additional fees that might force me to search for a different solution as we are currently eliminating as many reoccurring costs as possible. ☹️

Hi Florian,

I just sent you an email so we can discuss some options we might be able to offer you regarding Devolutions Server.
