Rustdesk Support on Ubuntu Desktop Remote Desktop Manager

Rustdesk Support on Ubuntu Desktop Remote Desktop Manager

avatar

Hi,

I am trying to remote into another Ubuntu Desktop which is running an instance of rustdesk as well.

Both machines are Ubuntu Desktop. I have Remote Desktop Manager for Ubuntu desktop installed updated to the latest version. I cannot see the Rustdesk session in RDM for Ubuntu. I cannot see an Add-ons button as well. Only a checkbox saying "show deprecated".

Rustdesk is probably the best remote desktop solution for linux machines. I think it should definitely be included in the RDM package for Ubuntu Desktop versions.

Is this not currently supported? Is there another way to connect to a Rustdesk instance via RDM on Ubuntu.

Thank you.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out regarding this matter.

First, I will move this topic to the Linux section of the forum, as it is a more appropriate location for this discussion.

Regarding RustDesk integration: we currently support it at a very basic level. For example, in the Windows version, RustDesk can be launched via RDM: in the backend we are using a command line. This opens RustDesk, and from there, users can interact with it directly.

That said, our development team is actively considering the integration with RustDesk on RDM for Linux.

In the meantime, we recommend using a command line entry in RDM to store the RustDesk ID and password. You can also launch RustDesk from there, which serves as a practical workaround until the integration becomes available.

If embedded RustDesk session support within RDM is important to you, we also encourage reaching out to the RustDesk team to advocate for deeper integration with commercial software like RDM.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Best regards,

Jacob Lafrenière

Hi zmarak,

We've added RustDesk support in RDM Linux. It should be available in today's new release (2026.1.0.8).

Best regards.
