Website Entries (maybe others as well) don't seem to work well on Linux

System: Linux Mint (Ubuntu) 22.04
RDM version: 2025.1.0.11

After a fresh install of Linux Mint and installation of RDM, I ran into a few issues with the Linux edition of RDM.
Several examples of issues including when on a website entry -

1) When on the overview tab, pressing the view icon for the password does nothing
2) When on the overview tab, pressing the copy icon for username or password does nothing (both behave the same way)
3) In the entry properties, under Website>General tab, the Assign favicon freezes the system. After a time, need to force quit the system.
4) On the same General tab, the password strength indicator always shows as Very Weak no matter what the password is. (NOTE, when generated, it showed as Very strong). When you click on the show password icon, it works on this screen and changes the strength indicator to very strong. Clicking to hide the password again retains the Very strong value, unless you exit the entry entirely, and go back in, when it resets to Very Weak again.

I have had a few other similar instances in the past, but don't have details anymore - may have been fixed in updates or I just don't recall the details.

Overall, each of these can be worked around - usually by editing the entry rather than just viewing it. With the favicon issue, it can't be worked around, but isn't critical either. Still, it is broken - for me at least.

I have had connection issues via SSH to other machines as well, but have not identified if it is an RDM issue or a new system issue, or something else. But I have identified the above issues with the Website entry - many of which have been maintained for quite some time, and some newly created on this installation. All behave the same, implying it is an RDM issue and not a data issue, or system issue.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Devolutions Support.

I was unable to reproduce each of the issues you reported, except for one:
3) In the entry properties, under the Website > General tab, selecting "Assign favicon" causes the system to freeze. After some time, it becomes necessary to force quit the system.

Before proceeding further, could you please update to the latest version of RDM and let us know which issues you are still able to reproduce?

Best regards,

Carl Marien

Hello Carl,

Thank you for this. I am not sure that the other options are actual bugs, but I am not sure why they don't work either. It could very well be my configuration, though I am not sure why the vanilla Mint Linux 22 and version of RDM would do that for me but not across other systems.

You ask that I update to the latest version of RDM, but from what I can tell, this is the latest version according to the "Check for Updates" feature. There is no repository for pulling the data from, so downloads are the only way I know to do so, and that feature is the only way I know to keep up to date on when new versions drop. Is that feature also not working? At any rate, I will try and see if I can find a newer version to download.

Hello,

Could you please follow the instructions in the documentation below to reset the RDM installation to its default settings?

https://docs.devolutions.net/rdm/kb/how-to-articles/reset-rdm-to-default-settings/?tab=linux

This will help us determine whether the issue is related to the RDM installation or caused by something else.

Best regards,

Sure. Upon doing each step, I got these warnings - not sure if they are relevant to the issue or not:

Once completed, and before trying any imports or anything, I created a new test connection to the Devolutions forum site. It had the same issue with regard to the favicon assignment. That said, doing this DID resolve all the other issues you were unable to reproduce, so that is good news for me anyway.

Another, not completely unexpected find is that once I reconnected to my Devolutions Hub Personal account again, it stopped working again. Seems it may have something to do with either the entries or the database itself. Is there any way to clean up the database and fix issues like this? Turns out it is working now after all. The entry tested when I said it wasn't turned out to be one of the Website (Legacy) entries. I assume I just need to convert them to the current format for it to work again. Doing that now using https://docs.devolutions.net/rdm/kb/how-to-articles/convert-website-legacy-to-website/, however, I don't see the convert option. Are there any other ways of doing this?

Hello,

Great to hear that some of the issues have been resolved.

If I'm not mistaken, the only remaining issue is, as you mentioned, related to the legacy web entry. You're absolutely right in saying that converting these entries should resolve the problem. However, the documentation you shared is for Windows.

At the moment, there is no way to convert entries directly in RDM for Linux. You have two options:

1. Connect to a Windows machine and follow the documentation.
2. Manually recreate the entries one by one in RDM for Linux.

Best regards,

Carl Marien
