Hi Folks,
When using RDM with Hub + Gateways, and session recording is enabled, is there any combination of settings that results in the recording being stored on the Gateway side?
Hi James,
Recordings are always stored on the Gateway—never on Hub. The Gateway functions as the recording server, meaning Devolutions never has access to your recordings.
Are you experiencing any issues with this setup?
Let us know if there's anything we can do to help!

Hi Benoit,
I have a Hub + Gateway setup. I can configure RDM to record on my client (local) side. I've not yet been able to pick a combination of settings that result in the Gateway storing the recording.
Can you confirm what RDM entry settings result in the Gateway storing the recording?
Thanks,
James
Hello,
Thank you for your reply,
In your Hub Web interface under "Administration" -> "System Settings" -> "Session Recording" have you enabled the option "Enable Devolutions Gateway recording"? With this enabled, in your entry Properties if the Gateway is configured when going under the "Sessions Recording" section you should have the option to select "Remote" instead of "Local".
Let me know if this helps,
Best regards,
Samuel Dery
Hey,
I had session recording enabled on the Hub side already. All settings appear to be about Local based on the UI divider. I've played with the combination and so far all seems to record local.
Can you share a screenshot of what good/working looks like?

Hello,
Thank you for your reply,
Which version of RDM are you currently using?
Here is a screenshot of what the configuration looks like on my end:

Hi Samuel,
I updated to the just released version:
From:2024.3.29.0
To:2025.1.29.0
I can now see an option for remote. But also just get an error when trying to use it:

Hello,
Thank you for your reply,
Is the connection working as expected without the recording configured?
In your entry "Properties" under "VPN/Tunnel/Gateway" -> "Settings (Devolutions Gateway), If you use the 'Check Health" button, does it return a connection successful?
Let me know,
Best regards,
Samuel Dery
Hi Samuel,
Yes the connection via Gateway works with and without recording enabled. When remote recording is enabled it asks if I still want to connect even though the PAM service is unavailable - if I tell it to continue I connect to the RDP session via Gateway without an issue.
Is there an additional service to install for session recording to work on Gateways?
Thanks,
James
Hello,
