Feature Request for Smart Folder

Feature Request for Smart Folder

We want to use more Smart Folders in our Devolution Server.
And we thought it would be great to be able to not only search by name but also by eg. host.
That would allow a more error free display of devices within the same VLAN for exaple, because that way the problem with forgetting to set a tag can be eliminated.
For that case it would also be extremely practical to state an IP range.
In our case for that to work flawlessly tho an addistional feater would be great, namely being able to specify the tree in which the folder should search instead of just the entire vault.

Hello,

Thank you for your request. We've had other users mention they would like improvements in the search capabilities of the Smart Folder entry, and we've linked your thread to our internal ticket. At the moment we don't have an estimate on when we will work on this but knowing that our users are interested in such a feature helps us prioritize for our future roadmaps.

Hi,

can the smart folders be used in Devolutions Server in the web gui or in the workspace app?
Or is this something restricted to RDM ?
Because i have created a a smart folder in RDM and can see it in the web gui, but there are no entries shown in the web gui, only in RDM

Hello hoppe,

I checked with our DVLS and Workspace teams, and this is not currently supported. They will open tickets for their respective platforms to add this. At the moment we can't give you an estimate on when this will be available.

Hello Hubert,

thank you for the feedback. Would be a nice feature to have, especially if one where able to manage permissions with it.
Like a group gets only read permission to a smart folder, and therefore can read or use the credentials, but not change it.

And one last question : support in the powershell module would also be great. Modifying a smart folder is one part, accessing the search result of a smart folder would be really great.

I'll let our Powershell team know, I assume that should be possible.

The Smart Folder feature is a way to show specific entries in your vault based on a set of criterias. This means if your users already have only the "view" permission to the resulting entries, they won't be able to modify the credential and will only be able to view it for example. I'm not sure adding an additional set of permissions on top of it would be very useful, as that might mislead administrators into thinking they properly secured certain entries when viewing them through the smart folder's dashboard, but in actuality they wouldn't have. On top of it, it would add another layer of complexity to configuring entries, and RDM is already quite the complicated application.
Because of that, I don't think there's enough benefit to add this on top of the existing feature. I'm not saying we'll never consider this, but at the moment I'm not sure it would be very helpful.

Hello,

Nothing new for now, we haven't started investigating for a solution to this.

Hi Andreas,

As of version 2025.2.1 of the Devolutions.PowerShell module, the Get-RDMEntryFromSmartFolder cmdlet is now available. This allows you to retrieve entries directly from Smart Folders via PowerShell.
