Vault use case how-to; user1 can view contents of Vault, user2 can add/modify/delete contents of Vault

Hello,

I would like to configure 'vaulttest' to be view only for 'user1' and allow 'user2' to add/modify/delete any contents in 'vaulttest'.

What would the steps be to generate that use case?

Hello,

In a nutshell, 2 steps are required:

https://docs.devolutions.net/rdm/concepts/advanced-concepts/permissions-rbac-roles
https://academy.devolutions.net/student/activity/1925085-managing-entry-permissions

If the entries are set to Inherited, the permissions will be used from the parent folder / vault root configuration

Thank you.

When I try to work on the permissions as described in https://docs.devolutions.net/server/web-interface/user-groups-based-security/permissions, I don't see any Permissions options in the Security section of the Vault settings. Here is what I see in the Security settings under the vault:
I noticed in the linked documentation (https://docs.devolutions.net/server/web-interface/user-groups-based-security/permissions), that there are more sections visible and there is a toggle for 'Advanced'.

Am I missing permissions or is there something else I should be looking at?

Hello,

Your screenshot shows the Vault properties itself (Administration => Vaults).
To configure the permissions, you need to select your vault in the navigation pane and click on the pencil icon at the top right:

Thank you Min, that works.

What is the difference between 'Edit vault' (left) and 'Properties' (right) ?

Hello,

I'm glad to hear!

Well, Edit vault is mostly for settings for the vault itself (Assignments, Vaultowner..) while the Properties menu on the right applies for the content inside the vault. (Permissions, VPN settings...)

Ok thanks!

What is the difference between a user who has Vault Owner permissions and a vault user who has the Contributor permission set?

Hello,

Thank you for your follow-up.

Here are some links to the documentation regarding vault owners and contributors:

For example, vault owners can add or remove contributors as needed and have all the permissions a contributor has.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
