I can't find any information how to do a disaster recovery of Devolutions Server. The article about this is not available anymore: https://docs.devolutions.net/server/kb/knowledge-base/backup-restore-server/

Can I have more information about this?

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us on that matter!

We will create a documentation page based on the following information and post the link once it is available.

Required Elements to Have on Hand:

  1. Administrator Devolutions Server Account:
    • Ensure you have a Devolutions Server account with administrator rights and that Devolutions Server authentication is enabled.
    • If this authentication method is not used for daily operations, you can deactivate it. If needed, it can be reactivated using the Emergency Procedure method.
  2. SQL Server Instance:
    • Have an SQL Server instance available, either on the local machine or another nearby machine. SQL Server Express Edition is supported.
  3. DVLS Console and Offline Installation File:
  4. Required Software Components:
  5. Database Backup:
    • A complete database backup to restore on the SQL instance mentioned earlier.
  6. Decryption Password:
    • The password to decrypt the compressed database backup file.
  7. EncryptionKeys.bin File:
    • A copy of the EncryptionKeys.bin file. Refer to the documentation for exporting this file from the DVLS console. This file is required during the DVLS instance setup.
  8. Encryption Key Password:
    • The password associated with the EncryptionKeys.bin file is necessary for installation.
  9. Recovery Kit JSON File (Optional):
    • To streamline the instance creation, use the JSON file included in the Recovery Kit (which also contains the EncryptionKeys.bin file). Run it via the DVLS console CLI to avoid manually inputting information through the installer UI.

Minimum Requirements:
This list outlines the essential components to start a DVLS instance. For further details, consult the following documentation:

Consider the following elements that may impact the outcome of the recovery process:

  • Syslog Configuration:
  • SMTP Server Configuration:
    • If the SMTP server is configured and not accessible, it may affect DVLS. It is recommended that the SMTP server configuration be disabled.

Let us know if you have any more questions about this.

Best regards,
