change default for 2024.3 automatic checking after entry close

avatar

Hi, I just updated to 3.6, and this option pops up on entry close.
I know how to disable it per user but I want to do it globaly as it will cause some chaose and I'm user users will pick the wrong value.
I couldn't find anything in the administration settings.

Thanks,

Ben

Hello Ben,

Thank you for your feedback. You're right, that option is configurable by all users individually, but we don't have a way to default it to one behavior. We didn't set a default because previously, the PAM account was not checked in after a session. The user had to check in manually. However, we didn't want to default to that value because it would be hard to know the existence of that new feature. And we didn't default it to automatic checking because it would have changed the previous behavior. We could probably add an administration setting to allow an admin to default that setting to something specific, but I would be curious to understand more about why it will probably cause some chaos and why your users will not know what they should do on that question. But I will analyze how we could improve that to allow an admin to default all users to a specific behavior. I will keep you posted as soon as I have an update on that.

Best regards,

Hi, as it works today a user gets PAM privileges for a set amount of hours that covers the workday, after getting the PAM privilieges they can use as many entries as they want.
We implemneted it just recently without approvals so the users will get the hang of it and plan to add approvals soon.
What will happens after every entry that uses PAM is close the messege will pop up and they will select the first option which is to check in, thye wont mark the set this for everything because users don't usually do that (from experience).
Then they will need need to check back out every time they want to use a new entry, currently it's only stating a reason and later on it will require approval.
Eventually some may mark the checkbox but will still choose the first option and it will check them in multiple times a day.

The setting is per user on the DVLS side some I'm guessing there is not even a registry to fix it for now.

I think the option to control it should be priority for next version as I'm probably no the only one that this setting will cause chaos for.

Thanks,

Ben

Hello Ben,

Thank you for your quick answer. You're right, there is no registry to fix that behavior. We will look to add a way for an administrator to default it to a specific value (In your use case, you would like to default it to "Don't check-in automatically" if I understood correctly, but the admin could configure it like he wants). I will keep you posted.
