DVLS 2022.1 - Is there a way to remember an O365 vault login for RDM?

DVLS 2022.1 - Is there a way to remember an O365 vault login for RDM?

Hi,

I've upgraded our DVLS server from 2021.2 to 2022.1, and it seems quite nice so far.

Unfortunately, one regression I've found is that the default O365 authentication workflow from RDM is to authenticate via the default browser instead of embedded IE. Which is fine, except we were able to remember our O365 credentials before the upgrade, and we can't now.

So now every time I relaunch RDM, it wants to reauthenticate. Am I missing a setting somewhere to remember logins-- even if only for a day?

I'm posting this in the Server forum because I can authenticate to https://our-dps-server in the browser, and when I restart RDM it will prompt for credentials in the default browser again and not check for my existing session. Feel free to move it if necessary.

Thanks!

Hello,

Thank you for reporting this behaviour.

Our engineering team has already identified a potential fix to stay at least stay connected longer than what version 2022.1.9 could offer. In fact, the next DVLS version will contain that fix. You can subscribe to this thread to be automatically notified once the new version will be out.

Other customers have mentioned that these settings in Administration - Server Settings - Advanced helped to reduce the number of authentication prompt per day but it's still not perfect.

Once the values saved, you will need to stop and start the DVLS instance from the DVLS Console.

For the authentication in the browser vs the one from RDM, our engineering team has implemented OAuth federation which delivers a token on successful authentication on the DVLS web UI. DVLS will then transfer this token to RDM that states the user is properly authenticated. It offers a more secure method to identify the user and this will allow us to implement other external identity managers like Okta that should be available later this year. For this reason and as those two (web vs RDM) are considered as 2 different applications, the authentication process identifies them as 2 different sessions. So that is the reason why even if a web session is already opened, RDM will prompt for another authentication web page.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Hi Érica,

Thanks so much for the fast and incredibly detailed response! Honestly one of the best vendor responses I've encountered, and brings greater clarity/understanding to this behaviour.

I'll adjust those advanced settings for now and sit tight for the next release.

Cheers,
Joel

Hi Joel,

Thank you for your feedback and your kind words!

For your information, the latest DVLS version 2022.1.10 is now available and contains the fix to stabilize the application and to avoid multiple authentication prompts along the day.
