Hİ,
Using latest free version (2022-1-0-7) on Linux Mint on (HP G4 notebook), while i connected to any server through rdp and if use alt+tab to switch back to any opened program on my local computer rdp screen freezes (not allow me to click anywhere).
For example connecting to DC and using alt+tab to switch back to excel document opened on Mint, re using alt+tab or click to RDM icon to get back boooooom rdp is not responsive :) Closing tab with x button and re-connecting solves the problem.
Any ideas?
Hi fahrisonercakir,
We are currently unable to reproduce this issue. I created a ticket so we can investigate further.

Hi,
Finally i got some log about this issue, please see as attached

Hi.
Thank you for the crash report, it helps.
Are you still using 2022.1.0.7?
Weird part is we created FreeRDPSandboxed to prevent crash in FreeRDP native lib from crashing RDM as well.
However, in your crash report, it seems the error is in FreeRDPSandboxed but RDM crashes nonetheless, hmm.

Yeap i'm still using 2022.1.0.7, strangely RDM still continues to work but rdp tabs are becomes non responsive, i can close tabs with "x" and re-open again.
Oh, so the sandboxing is working, RDM is only reporting the crash from FreeRDPSandboxed (most probably because RDM launched the process).
I'll setup for another round of testing on Linux Mint to try and reproduce your issue.
Jonathan Lafontaine
Please be advised, i've tested on Mint and Ubuntu Mate both are the same.
Linux Mint running mate or cinnamon?

Mint runs on cinnamon
Hi,
I'm reporting back.
I tried to reproduce your issue on both Mint and Ubuntu MATE build wasn't able.
I was using a newer version of RDM Linux that is using .net6 instead of mono so it wasn't really apple to apple.
We recently started distributing RDM on flathub, could you give this version a try?
flatpak install flathub net.devolutions.RDM flatpak run net.devolutions.RDM
If flathub isn't recognized as a repository, use the following command
flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https://flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo

Hello fahrisonercakir,
Are you still experiencing this issues in the current version of RDM Linux?

Gabriel Dubois
Hi, I don't know if this is related, but I am seeing a quite similar issue.
The active RDP session freezes when I switch to a different window (e.g. firefox to google something)
When I come back to the RDP window the session is frozen and I have to right click -> reconnect. Usually only the foreground session. The ones in background tabs are fine.
The RDM window does not necessary has to be in the background, this even happens when RDM is on screen one and firefox is on screen two. Sometimes this happens every single time, sometimes not once in one day.
I am using RDM on Manjaro with KDE installed from AUR, X window manager, nvidia gpu
cheers
Michael

Still having the exact same problem, tried on Ubuntu 18.04 - 20.04 - Mint but the problem persist. When i switch to browser, any other program or just lock the screen it freezes even if RDM on the second monitor.
hi fahrisonercakir and michael-hennemann,
we are currently investigating the issue but if you could tell us the version of RDM you are using and experiencing this issue with,
it would help us tremendously.

Yesterday I upgraded to 2022.2.2.5
Haven't seen the issue today so far but as I said, this does not happen every time or even every day, so I will keep my eyes open :)
But I have been seeing the problem for quite a while now, at least several month occurring more or less often...
cheers
Michael
Update: Just had an RDP session that froze
hi michael,
i have yet another question for you sir: Do you use the sandboxing feature ?

hi michael,
i have yet another question for you sir: Do you use the sandboxing feature ?
Hi,
yes, sandboxing for RDP is enabled. seems to be the default because I can't remember to have changed it 🤔🤔
cheers
Michael
OK, if I disable sandboxing the whole RDM seems to crash 😬
Hi,
Could you run RDM from a terminal, using the remotedesktopmanager command, while sandboxing is disabled?
I'm curious to see if FreeRDP is reporting an error before crashing.

Hi,
I tried to replicate your issue on my end but unfortunately wasn't able.
I matched your setup the best I could but there was 2 key differences.
What windows version are you connecting to? Anything particular about the windows setup?

Please be adv. 2 days ago i've changed my HP G8 to brand new HP G9 and G9 doesn't have Nvidia GPU, it's gpu is intel, running Latest Mint and problem is persist.
I don't think it's related to nvidia gpu.
That would leave a setting in your session or the windows remote hitting an unstable spot in FreeRDP.

Would you mind exporting your RDP entry (minus username/password) so we can rule out a settings sent to RDP?

Hi,
I wasn't able to reproduce your issue using your exported entry.
At this point, I can only assume the problem is caused by the remote system.
Does it happen on all your rdp session regardless of the version of windows you are connecting to or is it specific to some entries?
If if is specific, what king of windows environment are you accessing?

Hi, I have not checked EVERY connection but I have seen it with Win10, Win2012R2, Win2016 and Win2019 so far.
Different environments, different active directory domains, different sets of policies.
The issue does not happen if I am connected from a windows machine.
Additionally I have not seen it happening when connected via Citrix ICA/HDX connections but I don't use them that often...
RDM on Windows uses (by default) the Microsoft RDP ActiveX, Linux uses FreeRDP.
You can switch to FreeRDP on Windows if you want.
I'll check what can be done in our sandboxing implementation to make the experience more seamless.
If you didn't have to manually restart the connection after a crash, that would be a tiny bit more convenient.

Well, in most cases I would have to enter user/pw so not much of a difference for me, but thanks!
If the issue comes from the underlying FreeRDP maybe we should open a bug report over there ?
Do you know anyone there we could send a link to this thread ?
If you can reproduce the issue in any of their clients, (xfreerdp for X, wlfreerdp for Wayland) you could probably open a bug report on their git repo.
I can send you a build with FreeRDP's debug output turned on. This would generate massive logs but could give our FreeRDP expert an idea where to look.
