Currently, if I have a Wayk Bastion opened in RDM, I see computer-names and that's it. That's not very useful if I have multiple customers calling their servers SRV01, SRV02 etc.
Would it be possible to additionally show a description of the machine, which I can enter in Wayk Admin-Portal?
Hello,
The engineering team is currently working on adding Wayk Bastion as a data source in RDM for Q1 2021. You will be able to see the structure in the tree view similar to this:
root ├── company 1 | ├── OU1 | ├──group | ├──machine1 | ├──machine2 | ├── OU2 ├── company 2 ...
Best regards,
Richard Boisvert
Knew about the data source, so yes, that sounds good! Thanks.
Am I understanding this right: I will still need the wayk server, and the data source will bind itself to that server?
Hi,
We also plan to show the FQDN instead of the machine name. So if the machine is on a domain, you will see SRV01.contoso.loc instead of only SRV01. In your case, would it help ? Of course, the new structure will also help to organize your client's machines.
And yes, you are right, you will need the Wayk Bastion server. The data source will send request to that server to show you the same folder structure with all machines.

François Dubois
Hm, the domain name is of course better than the server name, but many customers have some ominous domain names, making differentiation again slow.
The best thing would be displaying some kind of a name, either a description or customizable name.
That said, I still don't quite see how the data source will work, so hard to say.
What I in the end need is a way to see which machines are back online, and currently I am helping myself with Teamviewer or have Wayk Bastion open... however WB only show server names, which as I said, are mostly very generic. And if then a customer has a domain called "intern", well, something called SRV01.intern.local doesn't necessarily tell me which customer that is ;-)
Hi,
Ok, I understand that it could help in some case but not in all cases. Our new structure should be released at the end of January. We could see at that moment if something else is needed to improve machine differentiation.

I didn't mean replacing the current name.
As you know, in Wayk Admin Center, I can enter a device description.
It would be nice if this description would be added as a separate column in RDM.
Hi,
Since you mention the Windows Admin Center, would it be possible to have a screenshot for reference?
Best regards,
Marc-André Moreau
I didn't say Windows Admin Center, but Wayk Admin Center... however also wrong name. I meant WAYK Bastion webpage.
Here you go. As you can see: C05, but in description, I can enter C05 - RT, giving me customizable name.
So if Machine description could be shown in RDM (Wayk Bastion right now), that would be great. That way I could see "C05 - RT ..... online".
Of course, I did express wishes to have automatic reconnect like RDP right now has, but I have been told, those features will come with the new data source.
So yes, I am patiently waiting, I am on vacation anyway for next 3 weeks...

Hello,
any updates on this topic?
Hi,
The new Wayk Bastion version is not released yet. We should release it by the end of the month. And a few weeks later, a new RDM version supporting Wayk Bastion datasource will be released.
