The .dmg is the package you are used to. The .pkg contains the macOS unattended mode service. In other words, the macOS .dmg is similar to the Windows .exe, and the macOS .pkg installer is similar to the Windows .msi installer. We started putting it on our website as it reached a milestone in terms of functionality, and we just made a first batch of fixes and improvements to it this week. While I should warn you to expect some rough edges (just like when the Windows unattended mode originally came out), it should be reasonably stable at this point to give it a try. We're just holding off on an official announcement until we feel enough people have tried it.

do you need the service for anything else on mac? (after all on Windows the unattended mode is needed for UAC and accessing elevated windows.)

but I would guess the pkg is better for a permanent install.

I think you are answering yourself here: yes, the .pkg installer is better for a permanent install. I wouldn't say the .dmg suffers from the same limitations as the .exe, but the macOS unattended service does work correctly after a full system reboot, and also survives session switching. The current session handling is limited (it disconnects - but you can reconnect again) but we're working on improving that. Also, we correctly handle the login screen now, and we also have ported the 'wayk-now enroll' command to register for unattended access in Wayk Den.

that sounds cool. then I'll go forward with the pkg. maybe if you go out with the annouce and all explain the difference on the DL page maybe since it isnt obvious.
