URL for update popup

avatar

Hi,

when user see popup from wayknow client, about new version he can click "yes" and web browser is open with address :
https://wayk.devolutions.net/

Would you consider open this URL directly?
https://wayk.devolutions.net/wayk-now/home/download

I just spent 20 min at phone with one user and try to tell him, how navigate your website (it was auto translated with google from English) and download new version... trust me this wasn't funny :-)

ps.
I don't know how it works, but today I did have situation, where I did click "yes" button for update, and instead of web browser open, new version wayknow starts install.. without download etc. - how it's possible?

Hello

Thanks for pointing that out - our website recently underwent some pretty big changes, and you are correct; it will be better to link directly to the download URL. We'll see this gets fixed for the next release, and I apologize for the inconvenience.

Since 2020.1.2, if you installed with the .msi, the application will first prompt to install the update itself (the text in the dialog box is slightly different in this case, although that is easy to miss). I'm actually wondering why that didn't happen for your customer, but I can see a couple of possible reasons:

  • They were updating from an earlier version than 2020.1.2
  • We're invoking our PowerShell module to do the update; so perhaps they don't have PowerShell 5.1. Windows 7?

Thanks and kind regards,

Ok, nice.

Yes, it was old 3.x.x version... or smth like that..
The same situation I've at Windows Server 2016, I see popup about new version > yes > webbrowser.
A server I've installed 2020.1.3.

At computer where update was made automatically I've installed Win10Pro.

One more question - what happen if we have Win10Pro + version 20201.2+ installed and user don't have admin permission?
When he allow update it will be made or he get prompt for admin password?

Hello again

> When he allow update it will be made or he get prompt for admin password?

Yes, if the user presses "Yes" on the update, a UAC prompt will ask for their credentials / authorization.

If the user cancels at that point without elevating privileges, they are then asked to download the .msi the old way.

Thanks and best regards as always,

Hello again

Just to let you know, Wayk Now 2020.1.5 is now available and the "update download" links should properly reflect the current website. If you notice any other issues like that please don't hesitate to let us know!

Thanks and kind regards,
