Hi,
DPS Server Version: 2019.1.20
Using the built in backup manager function within the DPS console, we have set this to run two backups per day (one at midnight and the other at midday), whilst stating only 21 backups to be kept (screenshot of the backup settings attached).
Backups are taken fine with new backup files created at these times correctly. However the cleanup part of the schedule doesn't appear to work, with more and more backup files accumulating in the directory and not retaining just the 21 backups set. This continues until the drive in which the backups are stored on fills up.
Oddly, if we run a manual backup from the DPS or web console, this does clean up the number of backups stored, but appears to keep a different number than the 21 set.
Is there a known issue with the way in which DPS Backup Manager clears down the older backup files, or have we mis-configured/mis-understood how this functions?
Thanks
Rich

Hi Rich,
This issue is a known issue in DPS 2019.1.20. Good news, in DPS 2019.2.12 this issue is fixed.
You can update by yourself by following the Upgrade help topic. Or you can write us an email at ticket@devolutions.net and we will assist by doing a remote session and doing the upgrade with you.
Important: RDM 2019.1.X will not be able to connect to DPS 2019.2.X. Upgrade RDM before upgrading DPS.

Hi David,
Thanks for getting back to me regarding this so quickly.
We will arrange to have DPS updated (along with our users RDM client version) and test whether this backup manager issue is resolved. If not, I will come back and advise.
Thanks again

Hi,
Sorry to re-animate such an old thread but we have now updated our DPS install to version 2020.2.8.0 but we are still seeing an issue where the built-in backup manager function does not clear down old backup files.
For example, we have configured backup manager via DPS to keep 14 backups, but this does not work and instead the directory which holds these backup files ever grows until the drive is full. Currently the backup directory has 34 backup files present where 14 should be instead.
I know it was said the later version of DPS would fix this issue, however this does not appear to be the case. Any other advice on ow we can resolve this please?
Thanks
Rich
Good Morning Rich,
Thanks for reaching out,
I will look into it and let you know as soon as I find something.

Good Morning Rich,
Can you check if the account running the devolutions scheduler service has the rights to delete on the folder where the backup files are?

Hi,
If we run the backup manually via backup manager this does clear up the older backup files, so it appears to be something done when the backups run on its schedule?
Hello,
Sorry to jump in, but to complete David's intervention, make sure the scheduler account (DevolutionsSchedulerService) in Windows Services, has the permissions to delete in the backup target folder. (right click on the service -> properties -> Log On tab, and locate the account)...
Thanks for letting us know if this helps.

HI,
Thanks for the advice on this. We have amended the security on the directory to ensure the LOCAL SERVICE user (used by the DevolutionsSchedulerService service) has full access to the directory where these backup files are being stored.
It will take a few days to see if this has worked, and will report back if we are still having issues.
Thanks again
Rich
