Hello,
When I record a session through Wayk Now and then save the recording, it is incomplete and the end is missing. Why is that?
Thanks.
Hi Julian,
This does not look normal. Can you tell me the exact sequence you have used to record the video?
Did you check "Automatically start recording sessions" or did you begin recording once the connection has been established?
You mention that the recording is incomplete and that the end is missing. Can you confirm that only the end is missing, and how much of it?
Last but not least, when changing the screen resolution, a new video file is produced for the same recording. Those files have the same name but with a number added to it (-1, -2, etc). This is due to a limitation in video formats (not just WebM/VP8, .mp4 and .avi suffer from the same issue) where dynamic resolution changes are not handled within the same video file. If the video format supports it, it is common that video players don't handle it. Can you check if this is the case?
The best workaround we found was to create a new video file with the new resolution. This is an unfortunate problem with video files that work quite well for movies of a fixed resolution, but not very well for computer desktops that can dynamically change resolutions.

Hello,
the recording is started during the session, in the settings "Activate recording" is deactivated.
I found that the video is displayed correctly in Google Chrome. In VLC this is played back too quickly, so the end is not visible. Nothing has been changed by the VLC in the settings.
Thanks.
Hi Julian,
Interesting, this does sound like a bug related to the timing of the video frames. I'll open a ticket and get someone to reproduce the issue, and we'll investigate this. In the meantime, you can use Google Chrome to play the videos, but we'll definitely get the VLC playback fixed.

Hello,
thanks for your support, i am waiting for your answer.
Hi Julian
The frame rate that the Wayk Now recording is encoded in is variable (the configured FPS in the recording settings is a "maximum", to allow balancing capture quality with performance and resulting file sizes) - this is by the nature of the fact that frames may not be updated or arrive at consistent intervals (we only stream a new frame from the server if the screen is actually updated, and the speed and timing of new frames depends on many factors such as chosen codec and network conditions).
So, for example, if the screen of the remote machine is not changing / updating, no new frames will be captured and encoded. This can lead to a low or very low frame rate for some or all of the encoding. Normally, this is the optimal result in terms of the resulting file size. Unfortunately it looks like VLC has long standing issues with playback of low fps videos (see this issue that dates back to 2005, for example).
I believe that is what is happening here - some or all of your videos have a frame rate that is too low for VLC to properly playback, and it manifests as the end of the file being skipped or appearing to be missing. Chrome doesn't suffer from the same issues so your file plays back OK there.
We've made a fix in the next version of Wayk Now that will encode files with a minimum frame rate that we believe should make playback more correct in VLC. I'm confident that will resolve this issue. I will post back here once that update is available.
In the meantime if you have further questions or feedback please don't hesitate to let us know
