I just updated it on the iPod touch and it is still crashing upon opening the app.

The problem is more complicated than we thought. We are currently working on it. We should be able to fix it. However, there is a slight chance that we may not be able to. We will keep you posted on our progress.

I tried deploying via MDM onto a 7th gen iPod and it crashed. I thought it was related to the 7 month old MDM related bug report. I reset the device and set it up without MDM and it's still crashing. So this 2 year old bug still exists.

Our first forays into fixing this bug back then were not successful.

We will bring this issue back to the table and see if changes to the OS or framework have created new avenues for fixing this.
