Hey Guys,

since we updatet to 5.1.1.0 the enforcement of the password template of the password generator isn't possible anymore:

On Server:

On Client:

Any hints for the issue?

Hello,

It seems that this is an issue. I can reproduce exactly the same behavior, no matter if I am connected to a SQL or a Devolutions Password Server data source.

Let me check this with an engineer and will get back to you shortly.

Hello,

How do you open the Password Generator dialog?
Is it from the Tools menu or from the Password Generator button within the properties dialog of an entry?

In both cases, the Password Generator dialog tool is set to use the local default password generator but you can switch to the password template with the drop down menu.

If you generate a password within an entry, it will use the password template set in Data Source Settings. My template is set to generate a 20 characters password and the following sample works perfectly.

Hello Erica,

it doesn't matter. It doesn't work in any way. Before we update to 5.1.1.0 the first selected template in the password generater, wich can be accessed by an entry, was "HL komm" and the password in an entry wich was generated by "Generate" was based on the template "HL komm" (excluded ambiguous characters like O,0,1,l,I etc.).

As you can see in the 3 screenshots before, i entered the password generator inside of an entry an the first selected template isn't "HL komm".

This template should be the first selected.

The big problem is, that the passwords generated by the button "Generate" are (it seems like) based on the template "Password Complexity" (is it new? it wasn't there before the update) and not our template based on our company password policy (and it forbidden passwords).

Nico

Hello,

Thank you for the explanation and the screen shots.

After some tests with older RDM and DVLS versions, the Password Generator tools always opened the Default local password template.

As I understand, you want that the Password Generator dialog opens with the template set in Data Source Settings - Password Template as the first available choice in the drop down selection. After a discussion with an engineer, they will add this on their to do list as a feature request.

I will transfer this thread into the Feature Request section.

Hello Nico,

This issue should be fixed starting from the beta of RDM 14.

If the option "Force default template" is checked, the following behaviors will be applied :

1. When opening the password generator from Tools -> Password Generator, the password template will be selected by default and the user will be able to change to other templates if necessary

2. When opening the password generator from the properties of an entry, the password template will be selected by default and the drop-down menu will be disabled to make it impossible for the user to change to another password template.
