Hypervisor Addon Feature Request

Hypervisor Addon Feature Request

Not sure this is the best place for this, but not sure where else to put it. I use the VMware and Hyper-V addons (though it should apply for any hypervisor, hence the title) for connecting to the Hypervisor and managing it. However, I can not always be sure I know which to launch to get to the server settings I need to adjust. My request is to have the add-on query the hypervisor to get a list of servers hosted and to list it before I go ahead and launch the client. I don't know if this is even doable, I mean it may need to launch the client just to do the query anyway, but I thought I would throw it out there and see.

Hi Thomas,
What will be the difference with the Hyper-V / VMware console where you can see all the VM?

Imagine a situation where I need to adjust the CPU or memory settings on a specific VM, but perhaps I have several ESXi standalone hosts, or even several clusters that it could reside on. The idea is it would simply query the API to get the VM list and display that in the Session screen before you open it to log in. I realize since it is working off the last known list, the data could be stale if someone moved it to another Host/Cluster, but I would think that would be a fairly unusual occurrence for most Hosts/Clusters. Similarly, a new VM or one recently removed may make the list stale, but in those cases, I would hope the admin(s) are aware of it as a recent change. Of course it would be ideal to query it and have it updated real time, but I don't know that this could be done at all. So short of that option, a list update each time the host/cluster is logged into would still help immensely.

To answer your question, though, the difference would be that I would not need to log into one or several hosts just to find the correct one the VM resides on (or at least is most likely to reside on). I wouldn't have to wait for each login to go through, connect, and display, just to find out it isn't the right one.

Hi,
I will enter a feature request but I can't give a timeframe.

Thank you. It is just a request that I thought might be useful.

Another thought for the website/forum might be having a feature request system that allows people to vote up various requests to find ones that many would find useful vs those that are niche at best (like this one). The most successful ones I have seen only allow a certain number of votes (typically 3-5) and only to registered forum members or customers which get returned as features are implemented or denied so people can vote up new feature requests, but only their top 3 or so at any given time.

I just found something I missed before that makes this request irrelevant. Using the Footer pane for the appropriate Hypervisor provides the same kind of information. Now that I reread the post, I am guessing that is what you meant, though I didn't understand it at the time. Instead, I thought you meant starting the console outside of RDM. Doh!
