Dropbox Configuration

avatar

Thank you for inviting me into the beta program. Currently a long time user of passwordsafe and have been looking forward to this product.

Can you advise of the process to configure connections and data sources to link to and .xml file within dropbox.

Hi Steve,

The DropBox data source is not supported in version 1 (perhaps in version 2).
A good alternative is to use Devolution Online Drive (DOD). Here is a link to our june
newsletter which describes the differences between DropBox and DOD:

http://blog.devolutions.net/2015/05/dropbox-vs-devolutions-online-drive.html?utm_source=newsletter34&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Newsletterjune2015

Here is what you can do:
1- With the PC or MAC version of Password Vault Manager create a DOD data source
2- Export the entries from your DropBox data source and Import the to your new DOD data source
- Select your DropBox data source
- Select the root folder
- Right click the root folder
- Select Export -> All Entries
- Save the file
- Select Your DOD data source
- Right click the Root Folder
- Select Import -> Import Entries
- Select the file that you previously saved
3- All your DropBox entries will be imported to your new DOD data source

4- In Android, in the data source section, select the new icon (to create a new data source)
- Select Devolutions Onlive Drive
- Fill the information
- You will have to enter your username and password
- Press the select button
- The .dod file that you previously created in windows or mac should be available in the list
- Select it
- Press done.

Please note that you must first create a Devolutions Cloud account if you want to create a Devolutions Online Drive data source.

Excellent - thank you for the information - will proceed forward to converting to .dod format and test connectivity on but the pc and the android phone. Will then report results.

Will there be plans in the future for Devolution's to charge customers for the online cloud based services?

Hi,
Devolutions Online Drive will always be free with his current feature set. We might one day add the possibility to save logs or attachments and this could be an option but even that we are not sure yet.

We also have Devolutions Online Database which is our cloud database where you can share the data.

prior to attempting to export/import to a dod file - i have been able to export to .pvm, .xml, etc... - when i attempt to import back into the dod source i have create - the process gets to 100% percent but never appears to finish. it does read the file as i can see all the records.

Is there something that needs to be done on the cloud side in regards to setting up the database?

can you provide the entire process for setting up the dod configurations.

Hi,
You seems to have done the right thing. What version do you use? How many sessions do you have?

David Hervieux

was wondering if there is a limit of records using the free version as it shows 0/15 records.

Currently using version 6.5.0.0 of passwordvault manager - all other functionality works properly - just the import on the dod from an .xml, pvm.

as far as i know i am allowed only one dod database - but still shows "no databases online", but i can see/edit the database settings.

as far as i know only one session - how can i tell? and how would i end up with more than one session?

i assume the database names must match on the windows version of passwordvault manager to what the name is up on the dod.

We have two online products. One is a database and it's not free and the other one is like dropbox. Could you verify that you use Devolutions Online Drive and not Devolutions Online Database.

Can you explain what a session is and how it's linked to the online drive - I did find under my dod settings and don't see any sessions listed.

when I attempt to create prompted with the following:
To add a new session, use your Remote Desktop Manager Client!

it is an online database that was created - but is listed as an online drive.

shall i delete the database? what is the direction i should progress towards.

You need to create an Devolutions Online Drive from RDM directly. The web interface is not useful for now with Online Drive. Just make sure to use File->Data Sources

I will check with our Support team if they can create a video

Installed RDM and created the Online Drive.

I must say - this is a bit of a pain as i did not know the two software suites were linked, and expected an easy dropbox/online drive solution.

I hope the process is simplified as if this is the process to be completed for individuals to get working on the phone/windows/cloud - it's going to be a hard sell.

at this point i am simply attempting to get the windows/cloud synced up and have yet to get that far and have not even looking at integrating the android phone.

now that the online drive has been created through rdm - what other small itmes need to be done in order to get all things working seamlessly.

I see what you mean and for now the mobile versions are extension of the Windows or Mac version. We will make sure to record a good tutorial.

David Hervieux

avatar

just so you know - I am importing raw data from passwordsafe - am i to perform the import into passwordvault or rdm?

can you advise of the next step?

avatar

You should use RDM if you can. Import it in the Windows version with the File->Import

David Hervieux

ok - so was able to import directly into rdm and see all the data within rdm. I also now see the .dod file under the online drive settings via the cloud. so things are falling in place.

Upon restarting passwordvault manager all the credentials/sessions are now listed and fully synced.

created new online drive datasource on android phone and linked to the .dod created via rdm - all is good!

very excited and excellent products!

Is there any specific areas of focus/feedback that devolutions is looking for? any specific process you are looking for in terms of beta testers?

avatar

so fair to say that all changes should be made in RDM moving forward and things should sync to passwordvault windows/android.

In RDM - If i have multiple tabs such as account/software on an entry - is there a way to make a different icon the default. Using it to keep track of product keys and want the software icon to take precedence?

Hi Steve,

You can focus on all the actions that can be performed on the connections and on the data sources (New, Edit, View, Refresh). Modify some values and validate if the changes were applied.
The data sources have a few options (specially the offline mode) which is important to test.

We would like to know:
1- If the system is not running as expected
2- If you encounter crashes or problems
3- If the system is not responsive
4- If the system is intuitive or not (if not areas that should be improved)
5- Any improvement that you feel like sharing

This will help us improve the product for it's official release which should be in 2-3 months.

Thank You,

Nicolas Dufour
