local network printers not redirected

local network printers not redirected

avatar

hi!
i just testet a rdp-session (type: "embedded rdp file") to a rds-cluster. using the rdp-settings with nothing but the following two lines all printers (local and network printers [deployed via gpo]) are redirected properly:

full address:s:192.168.1.100
drivestoredirect:s:*

but the "display"-setting (which is set to "embedded") is not respected and also the credentials specified are not used.

if i set up a rdp-session (type: "configured") to the same address and select all resources only the local installed printers are redirected.

please either make the type "embedded rdp file" respect the display and credential setting.
and/or enhance the type "configured" to redirect all printers.

thanks in advance for your return!

ps: i'm testing with RDM 10.0.4.0

Hi,
You need to add this line in your rdp file:

redirectprinters:i:1

hi David,
well, if i use the type "embedded rdp file" i don't have to add the line you mentioned as it just works.

when i try to set up the rdp-session with type "configured" i can not set any option and don't use any rdp file.

please have a look at my two requestes:
please either make the type "embedded rdp file" respect the display and credential setting.
and/or enhance the type "configured" to redirect all printers.

as what i really want is not to use any rdp-file but the session embedded.

please keep me updated on this.

just to let you know: the second parameter has nothing to do with the network printers beeing redirected. i just tested another session with nothing but the "full address" parameter and all network printers are working perfectly.

Have you checked the printer redirection in Resources when you use the configured type?

David Hervieux

avatar

yes i tried every possible combination with the resources when using configured type.

I've been investigating this issue and I'm not sure if I will be able to respect the display mode with a file. We need to use the ActiveX and set the values.

David Hervieux

avatar

hi David,
i'm totally fine with the activeX solution. did you manage to reproduce my dilemma?

KR
Guenther

avatar

But you said that with the ActiveX even with the redirect printer it does not work. I don't know what we can do since we already set the redirect printer value.

David Hervieux

Could you configure a session with the custom setting and export it to me?

David Hervieux

avatar

hi David,
i exported the session and when i connect via mstsc it works with this rdp-file.

however when i connect via RDM it does not forward all network printers but only local printers.

tested on latest beta 10.0.10.0 on windows 8.1.

Do you know if the remote printers are using an RDP add-ons like ThinPrint?

David Hervieux

avatar

i've been told that it uses the "easy print driver"

http://technet.microsoft.com/de-de/library/ff519199%28v=ws.10%29.aspx

avatar

Just for a test. Could you try RDCMan from microsoft to see if the remote printers appear?

David Hervieux

avatar

damn. no it does not work with rdcman.

i guess that means it won't work with RDM either. am i right?

avatar

Could you verify if you have the Load plug-ins in embedded mode. This value is in the Experience tab page.

David Hervieux

avatar

hi David,
the option was activated when testing.

Hi,
I suspect that your remote printers are using the RDP add-ins. Like you mentioned RDM is loading them but it's possible that you only have the 64 bit version of the drivers. Could you try RDM 64bit?

David Hervieux

avatar

hi David,
great suggestion! it works with RDM 64bit!

what kind of restrictions do we have when we use the 64bit-version?

KR
Guenther

avatar

We don't have many restriction left with RDM 64. The start-up used to be extremely slower (30 seconds) than the 32 bit version but with the latest beta it's only few seconds.

David Hervieux

avatar

OK then i will give it a try.

thanks for your patience!

KR
Guenther

You could verify if it's possible to install the 32 bit version of the driver.

David Hervieux

nah .. we will switch to 64 bit ...

that way we are sure it works.

thanks again!
