Hello devolutions team
I did some testing with PVM to see what it can do.
We use roboform in our team at the moment, so we all have a central, online synced DB of the logins/passwords to websites.
To login on, we just enter the name of the website in the roboform toolbar and with one click it opens the site, fills out the fields and logs in.
Very fast and simple.
With PVM I have to manually open the site, right click to fill the fields and hit login. Some mor steps.
Also for saving new logins, i just press shift during login and roboform prompts me with a save dialog.
Also filling out address forms / credit cards is done with one click along with the creation of new secure passwords with the button in the bar.
So my question is: Do we miss something in PVM? Or is it used for something else and should not replace roboform? (Cause there is an importer..)
I searched the forums, read the online help and watched the one old video. ;-)
Thanks for some light on what PVM should be used for. Or if we need to switch to last pass which somehow integrates with PVM?
Best regards.
Patrick
Hi,
First of all LastPass is only integrated with Remote Desktop Manager. For your other question, have you installed the browser extension?

Hi David
Yes I did install the plugin. And I also watched the Tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pob0CIhc0BQ and read the help: http://help.passwordvaultmanager.com/index.html?dataentry_autofill.htm
So that's why I think the features of the addon are not the same like roboform/lastpass. Perhaps this was never the goal. I'm just asking so we can decide if we move from roboform to PVM or LastPass.
Our main goal is to have one might tool (RDM) which can handle everything, but on the way not loose good featuer like we have in roboform at the moment.
That's why we ask for what exactly is PVM meant. At the moment I think the best way for us, ist to move from roboform to lastpass enterprise, which integrates great in RDM. (Read all the formu entries and watched the Tutorial).
We just want to understand which users are targeted with PVM and if when we use Lastpass PVM would also be needed or brings any advantage regarding lastpass integration.
Hope I could clear up, why I'm asking this question. It's just to find out for what exactly PVM should be used when someone already has for exmaple lastpass.
I was reading 30 pages of blog entries the last few days.. and I'm so exited about Devolutions. I never saw a company which takes the input of customers so directly into their product. Thanks for the great work.
Best regards.
Patrick
Hi Patrick,
First of all, at this time, PVM/RDM are not a good replacement for roboform's form filling capabilities. We don't yet support form filling and new password saving (and many other missing features). These features are slated to be added but no time line has yet to be defined.
While reading through the blog and online help you probably noticed that there are always multiple ways of getting things to work in RDM/PVM. This is due, in part, to our philosophy of letting the user decide the tools they want to use. So to answer the question "which users are targeted with PVM" the answer is it depends. Some users use it to separate session information (RDM) from credentials (PVM) but link them together for a seamless integration. Some may chose to use keepass or lastpass for example to achieve this separation. Other, on the other hand, might deploy RDM to all IT workers but deploy PVM (using same backed data source) to non-IT employees that require web-only type accesses.
Does that explanation help?

Hi Stefane
Thank you very much for the detailed explanations. I see now where the focus is and I think fo is it's the best solution to move to another password manager as roboform. I think we will go for lastpass, which can be integrated into RDM.
I already did some testing, and one thing I recognized, is that it took rather long to display the logins (perhaps because there are over 500) and also when we open a session, it tooks rahter long to open for example a website and enters the credentials. I think it's perhaps because of the online solution of lastpass? Or would less logins, also bring more speed in already setup connections? (I don't understand why it's need so long here.. when loading the list I think it's normal with more logins.. but with the login already chosen?).
Or would KeePass a a local database would be faster?
Best regards.
Patrick
Hi,
I suspect that we have to decrypt the whole content just to extract one piece of information. Maurice is currently on vacation but I'm sure he will be able to answer you.
It sure that it's faster with KeePass since we extract only a specific entry.
