Dynamic/filter based group

Hi folks

As we plan to manage a hell lot of items in our RDM we can't find a way to design a structure which is role-based, customer-type-sorted and task-based at the same time. So I came up with the idea of the term dynamic group.

Example: Different type of customers and environments use a specific type of firewall product which has to be updated one and then. As it is possible at the moment to search all entries for specific tags (for example "Firewall Product X", this already helps a lot) I think it would be really cool to be able to add a dynamic group, which lists all sessions which we define by setting a specific filter like the one we're already using when searching. When configured this dynamic group will contain only sessions with the tag "Firewall Product X".

So these dynamic groups could reside under the normal "All Entries" Tab in an own main tree called "Dynamic groups". Probably with a slightly different default icon so there is no mix up with the "normal" groups. Further, these dynamic folders shouldn't contain any static object - only populated by the filter setting on the folder.

Did I forget anything?

What do you think?

Hi,
I was already planing to add a new search dialog with advanced criteria. This would allow you to create custom queries with eventually some parameters. You should also be able to save those query for quick reuse. I think this solve partially your issue.

In the meantime you could take a look at the playlist in the v9.0 Beta. This allows you to group a set of entries.

Hey

Custom advanced search queries with an Option to save them (globally for all user?) would already help.

I like the playlist Feature. So I can Group Systems in my personal vault which are for example used in a Software upgrade (Client, Server, DB whatever). But it's not dynamic/filter based. So the Approach with saveable queries is more the direction I thought about.

Do you Keep me up to date in this thread or shall I follow the release notes?
