Hi Dan,

We rely on a component named FreeRDP to open RDP session in embedded tab in OS X. It is probably an issue related to this and I cannot guarantee we'll find a fix. I'll talk to our FreeRDP specialist and see what we can do.

To help us you could provide us with as much information you can:
- Your exact OS X version
- Your model of smart card reader and smart card
- Do you use any software to operate it?
- Any other information you might think relevant

Best regards,

Hi again,

I've just talk with our FreeRDP specialist and it doesn't seem like we will be able to do much. He noticed one thing in the log though. There seems to be some error with the printers. Could you try unchecking the related check box in the RDP configuration: RDP >> Local Resources >> Local Devices and Resources >> Printers.

Hi Dan,

Smart card operation really heavily on the hardware and software used for it.
We can't debug the issue without knowing what piece of hardware/software you are using.
even with that information, it might not be possible for us to quickly fix your issue.
We need to know:
- Your exact OS X version
- Your model of smart card reader and smart card
- Do you use any software to operate it?
- Any other information you might think relevant

I've send you all those details on the 28th of June. :
Now we can reproduce the failure with a demo of our software. So we can do any test.
I have unchecked the printers in de configuration.
Now I send you a log file with this sequence I’ve done:

The program starts automatically
Via the program I ask to read the eID-card.
A dialog box ask for reading. Clicking ‘Yes’. Box disappears and the card is read.
Remove the card.
Insert the card.
Via the program I ask again to read.
A dialog box ask for reading. Clicking ‘Yes’. Box disappears but nothing happens.
Sign out.

After log on again. The program can read the card as normal.
I’ve tested (without Remote desktop and on Windows) the same sequence on a local machine with a copy of the program and database and the card is read twice.
The smartcard readers are ACR38U type and SmartTerminal xx44. (log file is taken with ACR38U). Smartcard is a Belgian eID-card.
OSX 10.11.5
Devolutions version 3.5.4.2 free edition.

Hi Dan,

Unfortunately, your issue seems to be very specific to the hardware/software you are using.
We currently don't have the resources to reproduce exactly your situation and we can guaranty you a fix.
We will continue to improve the Smart Card feature and we hope your issue will be resolved.
We are using the FreeRDP open source for all of our embedded RDP session and you might find someone who can help you with your specific issue from the community.
You can visit FreeRDP website to post your issue here http://www.freerdp.com

Situation:
Server 2012R2 as terminal server.
Users using FreeRDP to log on and running an application.
Using wfreerdp /f /v:cloud.compufit.be /u:domainname\username /p:******** /a:smartcard,"OMNIKEY 3x21"
Problem:
Reading for the first time a smartcard is ok. But after removing the card and input the same or another one it is not possible to read the card. The software to read the card is shown up so you can verify to read the card. The window disappear but nothing happens.
Same problem on OSX.
Only disconnecting and reconnecting helps.
No errors displayed or found in logs.
Using another remote desktop program like RDP plus, Remote Desktop Connection manager 2.7 or MTSC does not give problems with the smartcard or smartcard reader.
It looks like this is a bug.

I've spoken with someone from FreeRDP and it doesn't seem like they intend to work on this anytime soon.

Alas, there is few things we can do on our side.

I'm very sorry for any inconveniences.

Ok. But can you tell me if the same problem occure with Enterprise edition of Devolutions remote desktop manager?

Clock3 yrs

I see no reason why it wouldn't. The RDP session of both the Free and Enterprise edition use FreeRDP. Therefore, there shouldn't be a difference between the two.
