Import sessions from MobaXterm

  • Create an Issue

Hi all.

Some of my coworkers are using MobaXterm from some time ago, because with this application they can have several terminals embedded and with tabs, an SFTP "explorer like" session opened when they connect trough SSH (so they can drag&drop any file from their PC to the remote server), and also a default colour scheme they like over Putty default.

Now, I would like to convince them to use RDM so we can have really a centralized database of sessions (we've purchased RDM Enterprise 5-users license pack), but the number of sessions configured in their MobaXterm is high to create all in RDM one by one.

- Terminals embedded with tabs: RDM OK.
- SFTP automatic connection: Well, I don't really mind this option because we can create an SFTP Sub-Connection and open it only when we need to upload a file to the server, I think it would be even better option (only detail is RDM SFTP is not drag&drop).

Is there any option to import a MobaXterm set of connections into RDM database?
If the answer is "no", could be possible to add this feature request?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
It's not supported for now but if you can provide us a sample, I'm sure we can do something for that.

Hi David.

I've exported MobaXterm sessions to a file... it is a text file with sections (Bookmarks, same as Folders), and in every section there are all sessions of that "folder", one line per session with all options (session name, server/IP name, port, font, colours,...).

Here I copy&paste a bit of the file, but if you prefer, I can send you all the file so you can check it better (it is only some KB in size).
And this is its appearance in MobaXterm:

Thanks in advance.

An explanation of the file (as I know the data of it, I've not asked MobaXterm developers):

sesafrazu01=#109#0%sesafrazu01%22%azroot%%-1%-1%%%22%%0%0%Interactive shell%%%-1%0%0%0%%1080#MobaFont%10%0%0%0%0%236,236,236%0,0,0%180,180,192%0%-1%0%%xterm%-1#0

It is only one line.
First sesafrazu01: Session name
Second sesafrazu01: Server name
22: Connection port
azroot: username
Interactive Shell: Type of connection. We have all sessions of this type.
Mobafont: Font used in the terminal session. With RDM we select DejaVu Sans Mono, we think it is the most similar font.
10: Font size.
236,236,236: Default Foreground Colour.
180,180,192: Another colour but I really don't know what it is.
xterm: Type of terminal.

I think the other "0" between the font and this colours indicates "default system colour" or something similar.

Thanks in advance.

Hi David.

Do you need more information or even a file of exported MobaXterm sessions ?

Do you think you could add "Import from MobaXterm" feature in next RDM releases?

Hi,
This is now assigned to Louis Philippe. He will get back to you soon.

Hi Louis-Philippe.

I've seen that MobaXterm saves passwords in Windows registry by default but I don't know if my coworkers are using this option or they've changed it (I don't like MobaXterm and I've installed free version only to try these options).

Next Monday, they and I will be together at the office again, so then I'll try to check this option to save passwords in their MobaXterm configuration and I'll try to provide you with a file example.

Thanks.
Regards.

Wow!!! This is the fastest response I've ever gotten from a developers team :-)

I've upgraded RDM version and:
- Import from MobaXterm.ini -> OK
- Without password file (clicking Cancel) -> OK
- Batch Edit to set password for all sessions -> OK

One doubt: I've created an empty folder, then right click on it --> Add --> Import From --> MobaXterm (I also tried right clicking on the empty folder --> Import --> Import Sessions From --> MobaXterm), but when the import ends, the folder is empty and imported sessions are saved at "Sessions root" or in the folders created during the import.

Am I doing anything wrong? How can I do the import inside the empty folder created before?

Thank you very much.
Best regards,
Héctor
