the automatic discovery of form fields for http connections does not find all the fields in most cases and i don't think it makes much sense to integrate a more smart guessing feature or anything, but would it be possible to give a list of all text/password and submit fields to choose from? mostly a human can easily see, which are the correct ones and if not, you can just try another instead of looking at the source.
We want to enhance the auto discover, we designed a better algorithm. This will not be in the next release, but it will come later. I added your idea to our todo, this could be a good workaround for some web sites.
I just stumbled over an error using a Web Session with form based auth.
After successful login (works like a charm so far) I went to the Administration page and changed a user entry.
On clicking "update" button the program tells me that this user already exists.
After some investigation I noticed that RDM inserts my login name in the username field right after the field is displayed on screen (its so fast - REALLY hard to observe).
I rechecked other web-Apps I am using with RDM and form based auth and noticed the same behaviour (so loginname field id and username field id is the same in this systems).
the conclusion for me is, that RDM needs to check the url or the auto-type mechanism should only occur once.
the other is NOT to use this handy auto-type feature. (Even when not using this for my precious passwords -
dont have to type my username all the time is pretty nice, and would lead to the same phenomenon).

i had the same problem and suggested a solution using timeouts or fill the form only once.
It's a known issue and I will fix it for the next version. It's on the top 10 list.
